    Default Kitchen Improvement

So a month ago the wife and I decided to go out with tradition and in with bar height dining. So I met with my cabinet lady and she made my drawing into this CAD design.

Which she said would look like this

The cabinets were delivered Friday and I placed them where they needed to be... it was a good visual.

Saturday Nasty Nate and I got to work... let's see how this goes.

Get a measurement to build the toe kick

    Measure twice

Let's set up our toe kick to draw it out....

Getting to cutting out the pergo

The wife thinks this is amusing.

The toe kick fits and I'm mounting that panty

Nasty seems to like my ass

Getting ready to remove the door to mount to the next cabinet

    Men at work

Nasty is Master Splinter and a Jedi at home improvement, but I still need to harass him

We have the first side all installed

I simply love doing these projects with Nasty. He's not only my brother in law but my best bud.

We are trying to figure out why the spacer is sitting so poorly against this cabinet....

You can see Nate sanding the spacer down to fit the un-square/un-straight cabinet face. I'm doing some clean up. Saw dust on pergo is slippery

We continued to run electrical to the tall pantries. and it took us longer to get these two cabinets installed than the other 4

Ruger the Rottie came in to inspect.

So in only 8 hours of work time we are 95% finished....

We finished off the toe kick face, the 1/4 round on the floor

We even put a piece of 1/4 round in the corner to finish it all off nicely.

Need to get some new granite installed and then we can finish the crown and scribe molding. And I can get some new bar stools and door knobs.

    We are excited!

Looks great G! Didn't waste any time did you. I thought you were looking at the end of January on starting this. Layout looks awesome!!!... opens up the whole kitchen.
So why did you go with wall cabinets and build your own toe kick instead of base cabinets with the kick?
I see know, its a height /width issue.... standard base would have been to short / wide.... my bad.

Thanks and you're right, I didn't waste any time. I was shooting for mid Jan, but that was because I thought I was going to be by myself, having help made it quick.

Yeah it opens it right up!

You use top cabinets so you have only 12" depth. All base cabinets are usually 30" deep. I did the same thing on the other side of the room. The tall pantrys had their own detached toe kicks.

Have the granite guy coming out tomorrow to make a template. This second place I went to today was able to match my 5 year old granite perfectly. Which is cool. Should have the new granite on it by the end of next week. YAY!

So on the left we see that I found the matching granite from 5 years ago.

So Nasty Nate designed this from his head

    Took a measurement

So him and I welded up some flat stock. It's not often that you get to weld with a kitchen cabinet project

So here's where it will live, after some cabinet trimming

Need to get it flush with the cabinet face

    Get to cutting

I end up with this, cut up cabinet

    Keep checking level and fit

    There ya go

I only had grade 8 bolts, but I think the 3/8" bolts should do the trick

    Triple check level and fitment

It isn't the prettiest, but this will be covered, and it fits
