    Lightbulb MS150 Michigan

Greetings everyone. I have not been by here for a while but did register and make an intro a while back.

As I stated then I had just moved up here from St Louis MO area and was getting settled in. I have done that pretty successfully but have a question for the group here.

In St Louis I was a volunteer for the MS150 bicycle rides down there and a group of us would ride support for the cyclists. We would watch for accidents, injuries, people in distress, etc.

I have contacted the MS Group up here and they said they would love to have such assistance but don't have that now. So, what I am doping is trying to find out if anyone here would be interested in providing this kind of support for the rides with me.

The information on the rides is located at http://bikemig.nationalmssociety.org/site/PageServer?pagename=BIKE_MIG_homepage

Or you can contact me through this thread and we can discuss options. As you see one ride is already completed and the next ride is just around the corner in July.

This is a very worthy charity and many of you may know someone or have someone in your family affected by MS. Please give this some thought and let me know.

Thanks so much for your consideration.

Hey taz. Is this where the motorcycle drives the course and offers assistance to the bicycle riders?

    I'd be interested...

problem is, I know I'm out of town for the fenton one.

I only know about it because a buddy did it in Tenn. So maybe some more explanation is needed for the others here.

Well it is usually not a great deal of effort. As a motorcycle escort you ride the courses with the cyclists watching for problems such as flat tires, dehydration, accidents etc. You stop and render aid as needed contacting the 4 wheel support vehicles, supplying water, supplying a tire pump if so equipped. Moral support is an important part of what we do.

I can't say about the folks up here but in St Louis wew were very appreciated by the riders with almost constant "thank you" comments. There are usually a lot of extra activities after the ride days and we have always been very welcome at these. I am still negotiating the things that will be supplied to the escort bikes such as gas, food, lodging, etc. I have no guarantees at this point but the more escorts we can provide the more valuable our contribution.

There are 4 rides each year. The first was in early June and I had already scheduled a motorcycle trip for that time. The next is July 12-13 in the Lansing area and there are two more in Sept in Brighton and Frankenmuth respectively. The more the merrier and you will be working for a very good cause as well.

If I can answer any questions I will try. Just ask.

    Well I'm game.

It would be nice to have a "go pack" or something that we can put on the motorcycle for water, first aid, ect...

How long is the ride? How long would our day be?

I'm thinking I wouldn't need gas money or lodging, as I can just ride up, do the event and ride home. But that's why I asked how long the day would be. It would just be nice if we could get fed, but that's not a deal breaker either.

This might be something I'm interested in as well and I could probably get the road docs involved

I would be interested, July is not good for me I will be out of town but the others I am sure I could help. I would need no gas or lodging I would rather have that go to the charity. Keep us informed

The days are usually about 8 hours or so. We would need to be available for those doing the longer day rides. At these events they usually have multiple routes ranging from 30 miles up to 100 miles in a day. I usually put 250-350 miles per day riding back and forth but there is plenty of time for breaks and cool down areas.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks for the interest.
