Default How many miles a day?

When you're doing a comfortable long trip, how many miles do you put down in a day in travel? Like if you were riding to Sturgis, blowing down the highway, how many miles would you put in for a day?

For me it's 500-600 a day and I'm about done. I could do more but it becomes no longer enjoyable in any sense.

I did almost 600 a couple times this summer - on my way to Sturgis (Mankato MN to Sturgis), and on my way to Alcoa, TN.

At that point I'm pretty much done, but I suppose if I had to I could have done more.

When I plan a trip... and I'm talking a day when I'm trying to get somewhere. Not a liesure riding day. I plan 550 miles. Or about 8-9hrs book time. If you take your time, factor in gas stops, traffic, a quick meal, and speeding (like I normally do). It's a 9-10 hour day.

Well, the thing is I voted 3-5 hundy as that is what is nice and comfy. However, if I were to get up early, like just before dawn and get some coffee, and get on the road by first daylight and roll till lunch thats about 6 hours of riding at 70-80mph 420 to 480 miles before lunch. getting a good lunch and a nice little cat nap 30-40 minutes, and then out on the road again say, by two and ride till dusk so camp or a good hotel can be found thats about 8:00 giving you another 6 hrs. So, feasibly you could do approx 800 to 950 miles per day, optimally. but when you think about it that many miles would do one of two things to you and your body; 1) rattle you to the bone so badly that you practically vibrate all night and can't sleep ruining your chances of more miles the next day or, 2) make you so sore from the same position all day all you want to do is lay on your face for the next day. So, I would say that no more than 600 miles per day for me, or I would be pretty much beat down.

I picked 3-5. I have never been more than 7-800 miles from home on the bike. I have done it in one day and in two. I think if I was going on a long trip I would keep it less than 500 anyplace there was something to see and put more miles on where there is nothing.

If I ever do longer than normal miles it's to get home. When you want to get home, YOU WANT TO GET HOME!

I'm good with the 500 mile mark. Anything over that for me would be a push.

500ish, but that was only because where I was heading to. If I don't get screwed in the money vs. time off in 2013 I'll get to test what my hard limit is.

I did around 350 on the Chopper before....I will have to see next summer on the Ultra...I'm sure 500 would be no problem
