Thread: Inner bearing remover

    Default Inner bearing remover

Anyone have a technique to getting the inner bearing race off a tranny? Or do I have to suck it up and buy the tool to remove this thing? I was going to mount my open primary today, but this damn race was in my way.

    Got to have a puller.

Either borrow, rent from auto store, or Harbor Freight.

alhall has a nice pic of the one he used... maybe he'll post it up

Yeah that tool is expensive, but there are a couple methods. One using heat but this is not my preferred method as it scares me to use heat on a ground shaft but the other method I have used many times works OK. I take a small dremel and cut a slot lengthwise across the race until it almost splits then using a small chisel give it a few taps to complete the split and then it will slide right off. I borrow that tool from a friend when possible but I have not heard from him in months.

I'll try the stealership and see if I can get one of those guys to take it off for me. If not I'll try cutting and chiseling. Thanks guys!
