    Default Patriot Guard Poker Run

Sunday June 13. Definitely a worthy cause.

If you don't know who the Patriot Guard Riders are, these guys were formed to shield the families from those assholes that protest at the funerals of fallen soldiers. They also do sendoffs and welcome homes, all at the family's request.

PGR rider here. I recently joined and it is definately worthwhile. Its hard to describe the feeling, pride, respect, honor. I've been to funerals, this Sunday will be my first send off. They say the welcome homes are the most fun, I can't wait to make one of those.

Where are they out of? I know I spoke to Fishman about joining a while back or at least trying to help.

    They're all over.

Fishman isn't in Patriot Guard, he's in Guardians of the Children.

I can't make the poker run, I'll be on the escort from G.R. to Lansing for the Marines (future Marines) heading to basic.

As Tele said, the PGR is all over. It's a really cool group of people, alot of vets, but not all. I wasn't in the service so I didn't know how I would fit in, I was kinda apprehensive the first time I went. But they aren't about that, its about respect for the men/women that are serving or have served. I went on a mission ride for a WW2 veteran's funeral and I've been to Iraq veteran's funerals. The PGR riders arrive early and form flag lines outside the church or funeral home and stand at attention to honor the person who has passed. Then escort the funeral procession to the cemetary. For welcome home ceremonies and send offs they form flag lines and escort to/from the airport.

My son is in the Mich National Guard. When his unit returned home from Baghdad, the PGR and American Legion riders escorted from the airport to the armory in Taylor. There must have been at least 100 bikes, they assisted the LEOs with blocking intersections and the escort. It was very cool. The PGR in New Jersey provided escort when they first landed back on U.S. soil and the Vietnam Vets cooked them breakfast at Fort Dix, before they flew home to Michigan.

There are assholes that protest at funerals of our veterans, mostly radical church groups, the Westboro Baptist Church is the most prominent, but there are others. The PGR provides a shield between these scum and the families of the vets. Unfortunately my work schedule doesn't allow me to attend very many, but I go when I can.

Here is a link to the Mich PGR website, anyone can join. The mission statement is on their website along with FAQ's about what to do on a PGR mission.

Here is a link describing the disgusting behavior of the radical groups and it happens right here in Michigan.

    Thumbs up

Not a drop of rain all day. You might know, the poker route went down...where else? North Territorial. At least the paving is done, a lot of brand new road west of 23, the spots that are old are in good shape.

Sumpter out of Belleville south to Willis Road, then west to Saline, then Manchester, the north through Chelsea to N. Territorial, then took that east all the way to Beck>AA Road>Lilly.

My wife's sister's boyfriend (did you follow that?) went, he won the poker hand with four natural queens, 10 high. Got him $100.

I dIdn't win squat. They gave a way a new set of tires for my bike, the guy that won them doesn't even ride.

I think I'm ging to sign up. It's free, no obligations, no dues. Ride when you can. They're going to start doing social rides too. Seem like great people and the purpose is good.
