Get an 'all wheel' cleaner. Use as directed. It'll melt the brake dust and crud right off. A cheap spoke brush will help too.

Alcohol, Tobbaco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

Best thing I have found is Armoral wheel cleaner & the long cone shaped brush. I have also found a smal 3 finger brush in a detailing section of auto parts store. I used some mineral spirits on a rag for the first pass and hoo-boy did that ever get them clean in short order.

I picked this stuff up at the International bike show about three years ago. Best I've ever used. It's absolutely Amazing. I use it on the whole bike. It will clean, polsih, shine, wax your wheels and everything else on the bike with very little effort.. Gives everthig a chrome shine. 16 oz. bottle about $16. Royal Blue.

WD-40 or CLR with wadded tin foil. The foil on chrome works similarly to a clay bar on paint. The WD-40 or CLR's just there for lube and to loosen the rust and crap. The tin foil's softer than the chrome so it cannot scratch it.
Remember, chrome can't be "polished" you only clean it. Follow up with a little wax to help it stay shiny and you'll be the envy of all your friends.
