    Default Sterling Heights

    Hey all,

I am in Sterling Heights area, got the bike bug last year and picked up a 2006 Shadow Spirit 1100 in the fall. I rode for a good 10 years previously when I first got my license, but had taken about 15 years off with family, kids, etc... Looking forward to some miles on this year.

With the temps near 40 and the threat of snow coming, got out riding today for a couple of hours. It was actually a great day for a ride, sun was out the entire time!

This looks like a great forum, nice to know I'm not the only one getting stir crazy during the winter.

My bike is pretty much stock, just added windshield, lowers, LeatherLyke bags. Thinking about exhaust but that will have to wait another year.

I saw the rule, no pics, never happened ... so here are a couple from today.

Sharp bike! Make sure you "shop around" for a set of pipes before you commit. There really seems to be a wide range of sound you can get out of those 1100 Shadows. I've heard ones that sound great, and some that sound like a loud wet fart (...think they were Cobras). Welcome aboard! Definitely hear ya about spring fever...this snow crap has got to go!

Previous ride was a 1984 Suzuki GS550 which I liked a lot (actually belonged to my older brother). Light, fast and reliable. My younger bro has an '06 Yamaha FZ6, he'll get that back on the road in the next week or so. We just swapped the exhaust out on that to a Scorpion unit. Really makes a huge difference, as the stock FZ6 was really quiet.

Both of them don't get why I went cruiser, guess I just wanted to try something different. So far, I like it a lot. Not fast like their bikes, but fast enough, comfortable and smooth. I think its a keeper.

You're right, I will have to check around if I change pipes on the Shadow. I'm not a slash cut slip on kind of guy, thinking more like HardKrome straights ...

Anyone have any knowledge of what they're like?

The gps is a magellan sportrak, which I picked up a few years ago. I don't want/need a lot of detail, just want to find my way out when I get lost. This one does the job and is waterproof. I also have a Garmin Nuvi which isn't waterproof and battery life sucks. So, the sportrak gets the nod for me.

Today's ride was refreshing ... much more to come!

Yeah, I'd check YouTube videos to hear a bunch of different exhaust. If you really wanted to save some dough you could probably cut your stock pipes and make them look and sound pretty sweet. Depending on what you wanted to do.
