View Full Version : October 11th ride to Groves Motorsports in Mason...

Bob
09-03-2008, 04:03 PM
Brian at Groves invited us to come to Grove for some food and for the Suzuki Open House on October 11th.* I think it would be cool for all of us to go.* I was looking on Google Maps and mapped it out to avoid highways and it looks like about 2 hours from Detroit through backroads.* I was thinking maybe some of us Downriver guys could meet and head out and have a planned route where we could meet others at various locations along the way?* Would anyone be interested?

Berto

I would meet you guys along the way somewhere... woot woot.

Good deal!* Where are you at again?* Detroit right?* How far from Downriver?*

We can take 94 to 127 or avoid highways and take back roads.* What would you all prefer?

I'm not that far from Downriver.* If the back roads have good scenery and curves let's do that.

Ok, here are our two route options:

Highways:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=4 ... e=UTF8&z=9 (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=48192&daddr=525+north+cedar+street,+mason,+mi&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll=42.587688,-84.454908&sspn=0.008578,0.013819&ie=UTF8&z=9)

Avoid Highways:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=4 ... 768799&z=9 (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=48192&daddr=525+north+cedar+street,+mason,+mi&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&dirflg=h&sll=42.3982,-83.80372&sspn=1.101323,1.768799&ie=UTF8&ll=42.395066,-83.806458&spn=1.101394,1.768799&z=9)

I am good either way I think.* I know some people like to avoid highways and I'm all for that.

I live on the west side and have done the ride to Mason many, many times.* In fact, it is one of my favorite rides.* The scenic route puts you on some of the nicest motorcycling roads in lower Michigan.* The group could choose to meet in Plymouth, then take North Territorial all the way to M-52.* Then north on M-52 to Dexter Trail (also known as Carter Rd. where it crosses M-52).* Lots of twists and turns, rolling hills, barns, farms, etc.* It will be beautiful, assuming the weather is good.* The fall colors should be spectacular!!

In 'downtown' Mason, I strongly suggest stopping at the Mason Jar, a local pub that serves some of the best hamburgers around.* They buy all their beef from a local market and it's top notch.* Grove's Motorsports is only a mile or so away.*

Here is a link to the Mason Jar Pub:* http://local.yahoo.com/info-16361731-ma ... grub-mason (http://local.yahoo.com/info-16361731-mason-jar-pub-grub-mason)

I'll volunteer to help organize this ride if my help is needed.* Email me at:* meinschaft@yahoo.com

Then pray for good weather!!

They posted for the Halloween party at DB's on the 18th.* I may do that if I don't give one myself.

Berto,

* * I suggest we take North Territorial to M-52, then head north to Dexter Trail.* That takes us almost all the way to Mason.* It's a very, very nice ride - 2 lane all the way, very scenic.* We could meet in Northville, then round up the bikes and take off, no later than noon.* It's a good hour ride to get there; we'd want to be back before it gets dark ( and COLD).

Berto
10-06-2008, 06:40 PM

Berto/All,

* As of this morning the weather for Saturday is looking good - 70 and partly cloudy.* This bodes well for a ride.* The only 'hitch' for me is what time my wife's plane gets in at the airport.* Right now, I'm able to go.*

Again, a gathering point could be the west parking lot for Northville downs horse track, on the nothwest corner of 7 Mile & Sheldon Rd.* For anyone coming from south of Northville, remember that Sheldon Road is closed due to construction, just south of M-14.

OK.* So who else is interested???????

It was an awesome ride!

The getting lost part was the best part of the ride... other than being sent to the back of the Mason Jar, guess we looked liked a bunch of bad bikers!

I took a couple on my camera phone and will try to upload them later.

Great ride everyone.

Before I headed to the airport Saturday morning to get my wife, I swung by Northville Downs so I could meet you folks.* It was about 10:40 a.m., and unfortunately, no one had yet arrived.*

On 7 Mile, just before I reached the I-275 exit, I noticed a brown GoldWing and another bike, heading west.* Could that have been BettyBoop and Mr. Boop?*

Glad to hear you enjoyed the ride.* Pretty nice scenery, eh?

Now what's this about getting sent to the back of the Mason Jar?* I've seen some rough characters in there and they got to sit up front, among the regulars?* * ???* Did you guys break something?

The good news is that when we got home, my wife was exhausted and went straight to bed.* This meant I DID get to ride, afterall.* Too late to make it to Mason, though.

Where you wanna head this weekend?

bettyboop1w
10-13-2008, 01:39 PM
Oh man the ride was nice, the scenery was great, weather that back rode down 36 had a tree arch with the fall colors just good riding.* All we could do was laugh none of us had been to groves before and the turn arounds was just funny.* That's what riding is sometimes just getting out there and taking a chance.

Berto glad you made it home safe.* We must do it again even while the weather is good.* Mr. Boop was so sore ;D ;D (first long ride) he needed his butt rubbed* ;D >:(.

Hope all of us can get to meet.

Berto
10-13-2008, 01:44 PM
Yeah, at one point I just hit the gas and when I looked up you all where gone... I slowed down for a bit with no luck.* I was about 4 miles from my exit, I figured Doc B had to poop or something... hahahaha.

The getting lost part made the ride... it is about getting lost at times, and learning new roads.

The place was pretty packed when we walked in, so that's why we sat in the back.* It was funny, no one took it the wrong way... The "bathroom scene" was funnier... you had to be there.

We can ride this weekend if weather permits... we have to keep it local as I can't go too far or be gone for as long this time.* But M man, your call.* Same meeting place?

detdrbuzzard
10-14-2008, 07:20 AM
if the weathers good i'll be there burto. i knew we were close to your exit but mr boop thought he needed gas so we made a stop for him. oh and i put the gps on charge just in case ;D

Berto/All,

* 53 degrees this Saturday = BRRRR!* Won't be bad if it's sunny.*

Is anyone going to make a suggestion for a destination?* I don't want to hijack the ride suggestions.* That being said, Chelsea is a nice ride and half the distance to Mason.* Milford is another nice place, at half the distance to Chelsea.

Come on, somebody pick a place...... 8)

Berto
10-14-2008, 12:09 PM
I'll throw my two cents in.... Chelsey....

10-15-2008, 05:42 AM
I'm always up for a ride to Chelsea.*

By the way, what route did you take to Mason - M-36 or North Territorial?*

If we end up going to Chelsea I don't want to take the same route, there are different ways to get there.* The colors should be great this weekend and the forecast is now up to 57 and SUNNY!!!!

detdrbuzzard
