So I inherited a sword and sheath with matching serial numbers it's been in the family for decades I think it's from ww2.does anyone know where I can research it?

Well Lee, I wouldn't know where to start, but what comes to mind is Mike and Frank on American Pickers. I've seen them a ton of times run into swords and they call someone or another to get details on them.
If I were you, I'd call there store in Iowa or Nashville and tell them what you have. I bet they would be helpful in getting you to someone that knows .
Off the wall response perhaps, but it may work.

You could always check blade forums or groups. I'm on a few knife groups and there are always odd ball things popping up. My guess is value and such would depend on who used the sword and for what purpose. Was it a ceremonial sword or something a Calvary officer would actually have on him. I know you said WWII but you never know.

Located the sword on a sword website its a japanese cavalry sword from early 1900s
