I'm looking to get an idea what a simple bobber fender would cost to get painted to match the oem paint.

Thanks!

Well, it's been a while since I've done any bike parts, but I do a lot of guitars.

What does the OEM paint look like? Is it a solid color? Any striping? Anything other than a solid color will add to the cost. How easy will it be to get factory paint?

I'm guessing a shop would charge about $100-150 for a solid color. Do you know anyone with a bump shop? You could probably get it done for $50 if you have a connection.

But why keep it simple?

It's black with like grey/silver pearl. I have a buddy that owns a bodyshop but it's sort of expensive. I'm thinking it I just get a spray can made up I could paint it myself and save some bucks. I plan on adding some pinstripping to it when it's all said and done. I'm learning how to pinstripe this winter so that should be a treat. LOL

It's black with like grey/silver pearl.

You mean black with sivler/grey panels, or black with the silver grey pearl mixed in? You may find a body shop is the only place that can mix the color. Don't forget the clearcoat.

It seems to me that you could get the fender and prep it yourself. All it takes is a wipe-down with triple etch on the bare metal, then use spray bomb primer. Ask your buddy how far to knock it back, probably about 400-600 grit. Once it's prepped, just have him shoot it for you. Then you can do the final sanding and buffing yourself with a little elbow grease.

Pearl mixed in. I can get it right from ColorRite but their prices are sort of high. I know if I take a panel in to the my friends body shop or Painter's Supply they'll be able to match it via computer mixing.

Not to threadjack... sorry bob...

But Tele, do you really paint guitars? I always wanted to make a custom Les Paul or Strat to hang on a wall... maybe once the sucky winter comes I can start a fun project.

Yup. I do builds too. I typically start with something basic. Here's a matching Strat and Tele I did. Both have custom gold pearl fingerboard inlays, black fretboards, black burst finishes with just a 'hint' of gold fleck. The Tele has a flamed maple top and binding. I did all of the work myself.

I also built the amp cabinet. The chassis is an early 70's Traynor YGM 3.

Here's a shot of the Tele after polishing:

Here's my '89 American Standard refinish:

A couple of Fender Coronado II's. The Surf Green one had been in a flood, the Tobacco Burst had been in a fire!

Yeah they did a rear bumper and side damage on my Civic and a part on my 250. They always do good work.
