View Full Version : Low speed riding

I went to an empty lot today and set up some cones and did about 30 minutes of just very low speed stuff. Man is it a pain. I did some cone weaves and just tried to like ride the bike as slow as I possibly could. I did not realize how much better I got until I left and took a ride. Not one scraping of the floor boards and I'm able to make MUCH tighter turns. It might sound goofy but I actually think it's sort of fun trying these low speed maneuvers out.

Funny Bob brings this up... this is actually a very recommended method of practice by MSF... think about when you took your MSF? You were doing mostly low speed maneuverability.

That would be a fun 2WM event... let's have a practive event. We have to get a parking lot, some cones and a few hours to do practice.

I have done this in the past, and it makes you so much better as Bob mentioned. It teaches you how to control your bike better.

Anyway... would anyone be interested in this?

I'd be interested for sure! We just need a local lot where we can get permission to do so.

What about a high school? They won't be using them for too much longer.

Anybody know any people we can ask? We would just use it for low speed maneuvers. I am sure we can get a green light from a lot owner.

Carelton or whatever that is by you is a good one. It's back away from Jefferson too.

The parking lot that's closer to Jefferson is in great shape, the part by the football field is old and gravely.

I'm going to ask about this empty lot at my work that we use for driver's training, tons of cones

Can you get us on the runway?

No go on the parking lot, the whole liability thing. We'd have a better chance of getting on at Willow Run. I've got a plan worked out for doing it, but haven't had the balls to try. I can probably snatch up some cones though (I know, BFD)

Thanks for trying!
