ut El Niño can have a dramatic effect on Michigan's winter. In fact, one of the strongest correlations is a strong El Niño and warmer than normal temperatures during winter in the Great Lakes and northern Plains.
Yes, you read that correctly. If El Niño becomes strong there is a good chance our temperatures in Michigan will be warmer than normal next winter. In fact, the second graphic is showing the Climate Prediction Center's temperature forecast for next December, January, and February. They may be already trying to reflect that warming effect on our winter.

We’re living in Michigan. El Niño or not most of us won’t ride our bikes through the winter months. The only salvation to this dreaded cold is that mythical global warming. Go figure, just; as we need global warming I believe science is about to expose that as a hoax.

after this shitty winter, it don't matter to me what happens. I have 5 more years here and i'm closing for winter for now on. I do most of my building in the 3 other seasons so theres no point in wasting money heating the garage anymore

Good luck - real data shows otherwise. These harsh winters, historically, come in several year cycles. All real data supports an even harsher winter next year. Buck up campers it's going to be a tough ride. And lower temps in this summer due to the harsh winter - which means = great riding weather all summer.

How is lower summer temps better riding weather?

Well, while I agree this is not something that is completely unbearable it has been a pretty rough one. We have had winters with lots of snow, we have had winters with really low temps, but this has been a pretty bad kick in the mouth snow season. With nearing record level amounts of snow since the 1800's and the constant low temps, its been a double whammy of a winter. This actually is not a normal Michigan winter. Normal is a usually one or the other super low temps or a bunch of snow but not the extremes we have been having like this season, I mean come on, 84" of snow in one season, REALLY?!!!?? No thats not normal. And 74 days below freezing with the record being 86. Nope, sorry, not normal there either.

Now, crying about it and carrying on like some people do is just ridiculous. Buck up camper, stiffen up the upper lip and put on your snivel gear, break out the shovels and snowblowers and keep your shit clean for those that still walk in this weather.

The facts do not bear this out.

Those numbers don't lie, we got kicked in the teeth this winter season. But, there is an end in sight.

Not until WE GET ANOTHER FUCKING 5-7". http://www.mlive.com/weather/index.ssf/2014/03/possible_snowstorm_heading_tow_1.html#incart_river _default

Good news is that it will be in the 40's on Friday so it wont be sticking around very long....

Most people would rather ride in the optimal temperature of 60 degrees. That is why it is better for riding. September 2013 was the greatest month ever for riding temperature and I didn't ride 1 day. When you ride full leathers in 60 degrees you are neither cold nor hot. That is why it is optimal riding temperature. Street riding anyways. 90 is more preferred track riding temperature.

Lets hope this snow forecast is as inaccurate as today's forecast, and we'll get more rain than snow

This

exactly - that's why I have been handing out fucking crying towels all winter. As Sean said - buck the fuck up and go cry in the pillow at night. It's Michigan. It's Winter. It's like an 8 mile whore on payday - cold and nasty. If you don't like it I will fucking help you pack your shit and kick you in the ass as you cross the state line. I fucking run the mitten from the river way up to the farms - that's how I roll. LOVE all 4 seasons and I love the extremes - hot and cold. Always something to do or a way to get into trouble usually involving an internal combustion engine.

I enjoy the extremes of the weather. I don't see how this is tough or harsh and I spend a lot of my day outside. Its just a little cold and snow. I always say you can put more clothes on but can only take so many off. Especially when were riding. I hate riding in the extreme heat. A few more weaks and we will be ready to go. But hey I really enjoyed snowmobiling on monday when it was 52 degrees up north!!!

You old fuckers can learn something from this guy - it's called common sense. Lance has restored my faith in the youth of the world.

It has to be free - I don't believe in money. Hell I might just give away all my money so I, in addition to an ass kicking, I will give all the thin skinned motherfuckers a sack of money as they leave my beloved enchanted mitten state. Maybe a free tube of vagasil too to keep the stench away and itching to a minimum on their manginas.
