Its between Austin and Killeen, on 195. And there aint much between Austin and Killen.

I had to be at Ft. Hood now and then in the 90's for business. After my first trip staying in Killeen, I learned to stay in Austin and drive up in the morning. :)

Back then the Rattlesnake Inn was off limits to service personnel, too many fights. I think its since changed hands and is much more civilized.

Hooah! I was also a bouncer at the "440 Light Company" disco right outside Killeen on the way to Florence. Georgetown and roundrock were great weekend getaways but 6th street in Austin on Friday nights was the bomb!

Hey Jax (thereaper), perhaps this will shed some light. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0108/7974.html Not saying I agree with ya, but '65 was a long time ago and "times, they were a-changin". I just don't think I'd make it piublic knowledge. a lot of guys who did go still need healing.

Actually I had a deferment , a pregnant girl friend . We got married had the baby , the cutest little girl ever . That said , I would have more than likely gone to Canada had I not gotten the deferment . Simply put , the Vietnam War was just another farce that the U.S. Military Machine got us in to . Truth is I can't remember one war other than WW2 that was worth fighting , can you ? And you don't have to tell me about the guys still hurting from that war , I saw it first hand with just about every male member of my family from brother to cousins . What it did to them was tragic in every way imaginable . I remember opening the Monroe Evening News every day and seeing the photos of boys that would be coming home in boxes . I was a pallbearer for my best friend , went to more funerals than I care to remember .

Winston Churchill said and I quote "the first casualty in war is always the truth" , he was right . Johnson lied to get us into Vietnam , Bush lied to get us into the Iraq , and why Afghanistan ? The CIA killed all but 40 of all the bad guys long before the troops were ordered in . I really believe if young men would refuse to fight and die , old men would have to settle their differences peacefully . If people would just think about it , Bush's needless Iraq war killed over 100,000 Iraqi's and thousands of our boys , and maimed tens of thousands more . To me Bush and Cheney are as guilty of war crimes as Hitler or Stalin , and yet they are living large on government pensions . In your minds eye try to see all of our needlessly dead sons and daughters , the ones who were maimed and 100,000 dead Iraq's . Then look at where Iraq is now , what was it about ? The same with Korea or Vietnam , lots of dead and maimed for life . FOR WHAT ?

If we were actually defending our country I would be on the front line even at my age right now today . But if one of my grand children wanted to enlist to fight one of these bull shit wars , I would sit him down and tell him all about the lies and the waste . If he or she got drafted to fight in one of them , I would give them the cash to start over in another domicile . When I think about it , it just makes me sick inside .

While I agree with many points there Reaper... maybe not all of them... but let's allow these boys to check in with their amazing service dates. The one thing is certain, politians wage war, our boys and girls just serve. Certainly there is another debate there but this isn't the place and it doesn't do much but rev up guys like Mud and then I get the sissies out of the woodwork and then they start whining, then it causes a WWW break down in society, which causes Caveman to not go to his Homer Simpson job at the nuclear plant, which causes us to loose power, which then causes a riot like there was back in the great 2003 black out, then Moe's dad gets punched over a can a soup, which causes Moe to go all Italian Job Godfather Part XXIIVII on all South East Michigan. Let's not make Moe loose his wits, he's a fragile man right now, we need to protect his old bones.

Thanks and this has been a PSA brought to you by Three Olives and TWM Un-Management.
