Just hope the engines are not anemic. If it can keep up with my V-Strom, it just might be time for me to get sell and get a Harley.

Looks like the engines are smaller versions of the vrod engine. My guess is that this family of engines will slowly creep into the rest of the HD lineup as emissions rules get tougher

What the heck I think this is not really for the US market but for the rest of the world and if they can expand there market and create more jobs why not. The plus side I am sure once they start selling the crap out of these around the world they will lower the price of our parts and bikes as a thank you for years of support......:lmao:

While Harley-Davidson is yet to reveal India pricing, it is known the Street 500 is priced at around $6,700 in the US market, where the 750 will sell for about $7,500. We estimate the Street 750 to be priced at close to Rs 4,50,000 when it slips into Indian showrooms in 2014.

I was hoping they would make a 75 or 125. 500 or 750 is way too much power for me. I hope these only go in straight lines because I hate turns and curves. All that garbage.

This new platform will be the basis for the Sportster line in a couple years, we all knew it was coming and this bike with 53HP and at 480 LBs will most likely run with the Sportys right out of the box in its mild state of tune. After a year or so the "hot"version will roll out with maybe 80 HP and the Sportster will get back to its roots. Harley really stopped making a sporty Sportster a few years ago, what they call a Sportster now is really just a styling exercise on a mini big twin. A 4 valve OHC water cooled 6 speed drive train is just what the Doctor ordered to "reinvent the Sportster.

Good to see them make something to bring the youngsters in. The 883 is pretty expensive for a dated design, and pretty anemic powerwise as well. Moving up to the 1200 custom is close to 12k out the door now so they need to get something in the lineup for the entry level rider. As far as the SOA references, kids dont want chrome. Hell, im an adult and i dont want chrome. Polishing and maintaining it sucks. Black powdercoat is easy to maintain and gives the bike the hot-rod look most folks want. It already comes with belt drive and if it doesnt need valve adjustments, it would be a pretty good value compared to the metrics and even the triumph in its price range.

Personally i like the look a lot better than the candy flake paint and gaudy whitewalls HD is pushing on some of the sporties and bigger bikes.

I think this is a great idea. I feel the new light wight Harleys will sell very well to new riders. Won't 'need' to buy a Jap bike anymore.

Maybe they wont make all the parts in china as they do now with the "american" made bikes.

[FORK]

Its a myth that all parts are made in China. Some? Yes. But not all, but you have to consider the fact that if everything was made in the US a Sporty would cost $30K, and nobody would buy one, so what would be the point?

When I replaced my latches in August, I discovered this for example:

" Keep in mind that Harley has been listening to people (through crowd sourcing) and have come up with a dangerously effective recipe for their motorcycles in the future. They are building bikes based on what people want.. "

"So it doesnít have pushrods? So itís a 60 degree Vee instead of a 45? So it has overhead cams? So itís got *GASP* liquid cooling and a radiatorÖ So itís an impressive, modern motorcycle. No doubt most people will see these as benefits that are in line with progress without breaking from heritage. In fact these bikes have some serious heritage that needs notingÖ"

Quick comment on pushrod engines - they arent antiquated. The Corvette, for example has a pushrod engine.

Pushrods still work well after all these years, they work for Chevy, and they work for Harley. On a related subject are 6 spd transmissions. With the high torque output of both the American V-8's and or the Harley V-Twin there is NO reason for 6 gears, its just marketing to the techno guys out there. A high torque engine just needs a wide ratio gearbox, there is no reason a 5 spd could not have the same top gearing as a 6 spd as long as it has the torque to pull it off. Truthfully a wide ratio 4 Spd would work as well, but most folks are B.s.'d by marketing... Hey, forgive me its winter and I'm Bored, Its just a pet peave of mine. Can you imagine what it will cost to get a new Hemi 9 Spd automatic rebuilt? Got to Pity the used car buyer, when all these things come off lease the used buyer will get killed on repairs on all this high tech crap.

I'm working a a few new vehicle programs and there is a great fuel economy benefit for 6 speed and higher transmissions. Every engine has an optimum rpm, torque, and fuel efficiency band. Keeping in this area in the torque curve throughout the acceleration will result in higher fuel economy. It can't be done nearly as well with a 4 speed trans. 6 speed and higher transmissions are not high tech crap and they give real world benefits to drivers.

My 2 cents, in this country the 500 will be the big riders edge bike. The 750 looks to me to be the end of the 883. Lighter, more powerful, modern, easy to keep EPA with the water cooling. If they go over, maybe a 900 is next. Why? To replace the 1200 sporty. Face it, its heavy, old and the EPA is killing it. The last big update was evo heads in '86. Ya, it got EFI and a 5 speed but thats not going to save it. The thing goes back to the 1952 flat head K. The K got OHV's in 1957 and we have the Sportster. The hole idea is a light weight sport twin, and the new bikes fit the bill like the XL's did years ago. Harley needs younger riders.

The only thing that seems odd to me is that the radiators on these things look huge to me. Could they not be smaller and/or better hidden?
