Well in case you missed it... I hit a deer. READ HERE

(http://www.twowheelmichigan.com/showthread.php?5301-U-P-2013-5-great-guys-on-an-Epic-adventure-PIC-EXTREME/page2)So I'm compiling ideas on parts...

I'm going to go with a carbon fiber inner fairing that will be carbon fiber and painted. Should look great with my bike's paint color.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Riding/UP%202013/Deer/IMG_4124_zpscaf07110.jpg (http://s99.photobucket.com/user/cjclark69/media/Riding/UP%202013/Deer/IMG_4124_zpscaf07110.jpg.html)

I know for the front fender I'm at the very least doing a Street Glide fender, so there will be no chrome trim, no fender bib, or fender tip light... but have been wondering about maybe doing a chopper style fender... not sure.

I'm also looking for a better set of black fork lowers. My black powdered stock HD ones were fine because I had them, but truly the casting on a set of HDs isn't that great. Once I get an idea, I'll then make sure my Progressive monotubes will work in them.

deerskin FTW!

spray some doe urine on it and then bring a trailer so you can attract bigger deer and bring them home with you for some good eating

Thanks for the suggestion. But I would like to keep the sling down low fender to help with riding in the rain. Fatboy is better than a sporty but still doesn't help as much as a FLH fender... ya know?

You know of course it's mandatory that you get "The Buck stops here!" painted in script on the front of the fairing...

Gas Man
08-01-2013, 10:26 AM
That's actually a funny idea. I kinda like it.

Had the estimate done. About where I though. Roughly $12k without a frame swap. Already tore into the front fairing and will be calling on some parts soon.

Well I fractured my Scaphoid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scaphoid_bone)bone so I got this gem.

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/2013%20Deer/IMG_4189_zps79ad4228.jpg (http://s99.photobucket.com/user/cjclark69/media/Ultra%20Classic/2013%20Deer/IMG_4189_zps79ad4228.jpg.html)

In it for 2-3 months casting due to the difficulty of healing. Will get this one cut off and re-xray after a month and repeat another month later... after 2 months MAYBE be done. Unlike a normal bone heal, that is good to go on it's own once it's "set"; this has to be healed 100% before it can be left on it's own. Failure to do so can lead to surgery, failure to do surgery if needed will give me arthritis in 6-7 years.

Got my ~$12k estimate on the bike so I started to tear it down...

Go get yourself an old 45 with a foot clutch and suicide shift to finish the season off with.

you know there is a distinct difference in the posts of riders on this forum compared to the non-riders that post on Gas' FB account. We are all basically concerned about him gettin shit fixed and riding season being screwed. The FB peeps are all like what happened? how? are you ok? They need to read a few posts earlier, He HIT A DEER. Cause it ran out in front of him like a suicidal dumbshit and Effed his ride all up with slight personnel damage. Of course he's ok, he's not posting to FB from the grave. Non riders.......SHEEEESH

It has been thought about.... but I'm just giving it a few weeks to chill. Plus I'm working on my 2nd car a 91 Mustang 5.0. Gotta get it up and running good so I know I can get wind with the wife (it's a drop top). Then I'm going to have to try to ride the nightster and see if I can ride with this thing.

Thanks Moe, but I think that caused me some pain this week... not sure I will make that a regular event.

Updates...

I sent my damaged HD radio to Iron Cross Audio to see if I could get it repaired vs buying a used or new one. Used ones go on ebay for about $350-$400. I got paid $930 from insurance for a new one.

Iron Cross did their magic and said they had to repair some main board fixes, as well as some other fixes, then they do a bunch of re-enforcements and better water resistance on some things... lots of the last bits are standard with their flat rate bench repairs @ $250. My radio needed a new case @ $40, but they waived that because I ordered the $250 ipod/iphone interface, then the $160 (discounted due to repair discount to $110) faceplate backlight color change to white to match my HD Titanium gauges. Grand total with shipping was like $605 and now it's better than before. That's some savings there too!!!

There is now a harness between the radio and the HD harness for the iphone interface, then the cord laying on top of the radio gets plugged into the round cord coming off the interface box and that goes to the iphone. I can then select the iphone after the AUX option in modes, also see the artist and song on the radio, control the phone and charge the phone. Pretty sweet deal! You can also order a longer cord if you want to put your iphone or ipod in the trunk or saddlebag.

the CB/intercom box will go right next to the iphone box where the cord is sitting. I just haven't re-attached it yet.

I also have the carbon fiber/painted inner fairing coming soon, as well as the Street Glide front fender...

Inner fairing was $550 retail, I'm getting for about $450 (discounted rate because the CF is still in trial phase).
Fender was $650 retail + ~$50 in ultra trim = $700 retail... I'm getting for like $350 painted.

Today I'm going to speak with my local dealer to see if they'll price match with some out of state dealers... I hope they do.

Well local dealer didn't want to deal like an out of state dealer wanted to. Shame being it was just shy of $6k in parts after discounts.

Also, ordered the Baker Bully Primary cover. Mine wasn't damaged but I've always wanted one but couldn't swallow the price... well till now.

Ordered the Hornet deer siren so I stop getting close and/or hitting these damn deer.

Ordered from Eastern, a set of PM fairing mirrors in black.

Plus ordered a few more cool things. Going to try the cycle vision windshield trim light in black, and a set of fairing cap rocker switch covers so they match the radio face.

So far even with a few pieces that will need powder, I'm still well below par/budget.

I hear the deer sirens actually attract deer - some people use them on their 4 wheelers when they are hunting so they can shoot the deer right off the atv

I need one of those sirens for my car now. My daughter just got hit by one. She had one jump in front of her so she stopped the car and a second one bolted out from the side of the road and ran right into the rear quarter of my car. Damn insurance company said it wasnt technically a collision because no other vehicle was involved so i ended up having to pay the deductable. What a crock. Happened just past the train tracks on vreeland, east of telegraph.

Gas Man

Really! WOW. I drive by there all the time. It should be considered a comp claim, so that deductible is usually lower. Mine is $100.

Dag,

My mom is an agent for AAA and I know for a FACT that is not right. It's only collision when you collide with another vehicle or road object. If a deer hits you or you run into a deer its covered under comprehensive. You need to make sure you call your insurance co. and make sure you register a complaint if you have already paid.
What they are doin to ya is straight up BS. and tell them so. I hate insurance companies that screw around with the rules.

Chris, front fender looks great. Curious: How did you get it so fast? I thought Harley painted parts take a long time (if not Vivid Black) - like 6-8 weeks or longer. Was it a third party part that you had painted locally?

I'm pulling together stuff for my front end. Just got contrast cut fork slider covers that match my exhaust tips (on sale). Looking for monotubes to be on sale to grab those. I like the lowers posted above, very clean looking. Once I get the sliders in my hands, I can then decide on black lowers or to polish the existing ones (get rid of that raw machined look). And I have not forgotten about the inner fairing. Although, when I remove the gauges, want to have the color changed. When ever I think my list is short, it gets longer....

I got the front fender from Fairing Paul, he had one and painted it with my inner. Just happen to be he had one... so I bought it.

The delay will end up being the HD painted parts. 2-8 weeks... we shall see. Could use a few prayers to help with speedy delivery.

You don't hear the deer alarm, it's high pitched and supposedly the deer are put off by them. Much like the point made above, their effectiveness is questionable. It didn't help Wiley, and you should not be lulled into complacency as the tiniest bug or piece on dirt lodged inside can render them useless. And "NOBODY" periodically cleans them out! F.W.I.W.

Well I have been working hard on getting the bike back together, hoping my body is taking care of the ole hand. I had my 1 month follow up yesterday. Got cut out of my cast, xrays, and Dr. exam... he was blown away at my healing. I was suppose to be casted for another month, then splint for Oct for a few weeks... that's the normal and what was our game plan. But he said I've healed so well and fast that I'm in a splint thing today. I can remove it for washing and showering... plus I have more dexterity now in my hands. Just trying to work off some atrophy.

So good news on that front. Have this splint thing for this month and then I'm done. YAY!!!!

Got the wheel back on.

We figured the fender needs somin... We came up with a pin stripe from the bottom of the fender, up the side, cross over the front tip and mirror down the other side. I will have to be in touch. I know just the guy to have him match the stock pin stripe.

Got the new outer fairing on, daymaker, and LED windshield trim all mounted. I will get a small vid of the windshield lights in action... they are cool!!

It's really coming together nice. I like the red pinstripe idea. I vote you have Cave's son do a little pin-striping on it. Might as well take advantage of the cheap labor!

Yeah I will look into my bud's pin striper and go from there.... I'll leave the kid to his own devices with his own house and not practicing on my bike.

MY hand is killing me today... and wife had a work function that I went to with her...

So I didn't get much done...

Got the new saddlebag latches installed... my new saddlebag came with a new one but I decided I wanted to upgrade them to carry the cut theme from the front forks to this...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/2013%20Deer/IMG_4511_zps9bd1113d.jpg (http://s99.photobucket.com/user/cjclark69/media/Ultra%20Classic/2013%20Deer/IMG_4511_zps9bd1113d.jpg.html)

I didn't follow the directions because they were stupid... wanted you to remove the lid and all kinds of extra BS... got them in and they look great!
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/2013%20Deer/IMG_4512_zps33e753ed.jpg (http://s99.photobucket.com/user/cjclark69/media/Ultra%20Classic/2013%20Deer/IMG_4512_zps33e753ed.jpg.html)

The new saddlebag and the new latch (removed the new stock one)
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/2013%20Deer/IMG_4514_zpsdaffad14.jpg (http://s99.photobucket.com/user/cjclark69/media/Ultra%20Classic/2013%20Deer/IMG_4514_zpsdaffad14.jpg.html)

Looks funny with the beat up tourpack lid, but I do have my new bits for that, just need to time to do the switch.

Put my lowers back on, to help line up the highway pegs and I'll probably leave them on, since it's later in the season anyway...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Ultra%20Classic/2013%20Deer/IMG_4515_zps61e16a93.jpg (http://s99.photobucket.com/user/cjclark69/media/Ultra%20Classic/2013%20Deer/IMG_4515_zps61e16a93.jpg.html)

We aren't sure about the tank... it's kinda like when ever it shows up. My other painted bits only took 3 weeks. The order with the dealer has only been opened for 30 days... and I wasted a week before that with price shopping the local dealer (which I didn't use).

I know the front fork legs are sweet as hell, especially with those HD Edge cut bells.

So last night I rode the bike to my tattoo appt and ran it down to fumes.... about 10 miles past zero on the miles count down.

The old one off the bike

After the tank was on, I put another 1/2 gallon of regular into it, from the mower can (87 oct) to ensure I get to the gas station around the corner. Well, it still took this much into the "6 gallon" tank.
