View Full Version : Question on rider backrest

03-31-2013, 07:33 PM
Been interested in buying a drivers backrest. Can any of you guys that have one give me a little feedback on this. I'm looking at an eBay auction on a new hd backrest that ends at midnight tonight so any pros or cons would help out bigtime. Ever since I broke my femur and fucked up my L 4-5 in my back, sometimes I get to hurting a bit when I ride. I thought perhaps adding the drivers backrest would help.....any thoughts.

when I bought my Harley...it already had the drivers backrest on it...I have not used it yet on a long haul...Gas Man would be able to give ya his feedback on his...being he's used his on long hauls...
also have a seat done with gel from Seatmaker.....when I was riding today...I could tell how much more comfortable my seat was after I had Seatmaker redo my seat with gel in it :dthumb:

I have a Mustang backrest - I love it, very comfortable. I only ride locally without if if I forget to put it on after a wash, otherwise its always on, and indispensable on a long ride.

The only time i rode with a riders back rest was on koshers road king and i didnt like it because it made me feel cramped although it was not adjusted for me. I would like to try it out again one day though.

I have the fully adjustable HD version. It has a lever under the left heat shield that allows you to adjust it forward and backwards.

But also understand, with HD parts... the backrest base does NOT include the backrest itself.

Here's the adjustable MOUNT one I'm talking about
http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444877251 0&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302287457&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302287457&locale=en_US&bmUID=1364780826159&bmLocale=en_US

This allows you to adjust it where you want AS you ride down the road. Don't want it on you... pull the lever under your left leg and push it back. DONE.

Then like I said, you need a separate purchase of the actual backrest. This one is like what I have which allows you to adjust it up and down as well as the forward and backwards that the mount gives you.

Thanks for the feedback fellas ....im gonna go to biker bobs this week and order one up. I was in a eBay auction last night and apparently I didn't realize I was bidding against a couple of fucking idiots. I stopped bidding at $60 bellow retail. These two guys fought each other within $4 of actual retail.

Which base did you get?

04-10-2013, 08:43 AM
Just the standard affixed base. Didn't want to fork up the extra coin for the gas charged adjustable one. I figured once I get the positioning of the rest where I want it, it just stays that way....
