Well today I started ordering parts for this winters project on the Road GLide.

So First I set out on my pipes and I ordered a set of True Duals from Drago's bike works along with a set of his dragula mufflers for the headers. His pipes are made by Rush to his specs and he is a very stand up guy. He answered every question I had over the phone and gave me all my options and was not pushy at all. This is the link to his site he does awesome work and all his bikes put out great numbers. http://dragosbikeworks.com/.

I also ordered a Thundermax EFI tuner from him as well and it is an autotuner that is just plug and play so I don't need to mess with a dyno or loading any maps. I was originally going to go with a Power Commander V but if I want it to run perfect I was going to need to dyno it so the cost of a dyno and the PCV would be the same as the thundermax. I also checked out a power vision with auto tune but the powervision still requires to do tuning runs and than adjust different things than go back out and run again and while it gives you the option to adjust things for your person settings it was about 100 more for that package and with me not being a motor guru by any means I went with the thundermax so it just works kinda like my apple computer that I'm typing on.http://www.thunder-max.com/Products/FuelInjection/ElectronicFuelInjectionModuleTBW.aspx

Then I moved onto handle bars. I went with the 16" Carlini Gangster Apes in 1.5 in bars. I ordered them as well as some poly bushings direct from Carlini. I originally want some yaffe apes but after hearing about what a PIA it is to internally wire them due to the angle in the bends I kept looking especially after my Road6customs bars on the shadow I never got ran through for the same reason. So the search went on and I got the gangsters and fell in love. He is what they will look like on my bike when I'm done.
1904190319051901

I got all the other odds and ends from LA choppers such as the wiring kit and cable kit. I also ended up having to order new risers to fit the 1.5 bars which was about 25 bucks cheaper from LA choppers but after to the guy at Carlini the 35 dollar bushing and washers I ordered would have came with the risers if I had ordered them from carlini.

Also planned for this winter is a new windshield still up in the air on which one and then getting some powder done and only time will tell how much powder.

I started getting parts in the mail today. photobucket is messing up so pics I can't do right now. I got the bars and bushings in from carlini and the other stuff from LA choppers to put them on. No stuff from dragos yet due to the t-max tuner being mad in jersey or something like that and sandy set them a bit behind. Every thing is looking perfect so far. These 1.5in bars sure are fat but they look damn good. The bars are nice and wide too. I sat on the bike with them kinda holding them up and I think there going to feel great once installed. The only issue is the cable kit I got came in stainless and not black so I'm sending the cables back to get the black cables.

You are going to dig those bars. The Carlini that started the company (dead now, I think) was from Dearborn, did you know? http://www.carlinidesign.com/about/index.php

So if you read a bit, there's some Detroit history with Tony Carlini and Arlen Ness.

Also this from the Carlini web site:

HB: For those who may not know, can you speak a little about your father, Tony.
TJ: My dad was always into cars and motorcycles. Being from Detroit it was hard not to. He had built custom bikes and he and my mom started a custom motorcycle shops/parts business in Detroit back in 1969. Back then there weren't many custom parts for motorcycles. So he had a lot of big names coming through. He had a couple of really nice bikes that hit the covers of magazines. In 1979 they moved out to Southern California and started up Metalcrafters, (what's now become a renowned custom and prototype car manufacturer) and continued to build some famous bikes. In 1992 we came up with the Paint Saver, it was a real original part. It got product of the year. Since then we've brought products to the industry under the Carlini Designs name.

Apparently Tony Carlini died of Cancer: http://www.bikernet.com/pages/May_30_2002_Part_1.aspx

Pipes and everything are on and man this feels like a new bike. The throttle response is awesome and my ass dyno is happy I can't wait to get an air cleaner on. This thundermax was easy as pie to set up and the tune is awesome not a single pop on decel its just perfect and I didn't have to go to a dyno tuner. The pipes looks and sound awesome but they took me longer to get on then I thought. I learned a few things though, the right side rider floor board has to come off to get the old pipes off. Also I now hate hose clamps to keep the heat shields on I sure wish there was a better way because that took me the longest but it was worth it. Any ways here some pics and yes I know there shitty but youll just have to see it in person.

Got all the parts off and finally realized how easy those bags are to take off I'm for sure getting the brukus saddle bag secure.

Here's an option for your air cleaner - Ness Derby Sucker: http://shop.arlenness.com/s-136-derby-sucker-air-cleaner-kits.aspx

This allows you to use any 5-point derby cover as an insert, and its a reasonably priced kit. The only downside to this is that it makes for a fairly large AC.

Arlen Ness makes a similar horn cover that allows you to use any 5-point timer cover which is also nice. I have one if you want it, I think I'm just going to leave my cowbell on for now.

Here's a pic from Roadglide.org with the Ness AC and the same derby cover I have being used as the AC insert:

Well... rugby's ape install was seriously under estimated!!!!!!!!! I was thinking back to my last set of bars on the wife's nightster... 3-4 hour job. Rugby didn't explain his thoughts till we were already started... he was thinking a 4-5 hour job because he said the dealer charges 7 hours, but we'd have two people. Not considering neither of us has done a bar upgrade this in depth and with so so so many wires!!

I know he wants to upload pics but after today, I just don't care and going to steal some of his thunder.

We tore the outer fairing off, the speed/tach gauge cluster, and the stock bars
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Lift%20Wrenching/Lance/IMG_2331.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Lift%20Wrenching/Lance/IMG_2332.jpg

Proceeded, to pull the rear exhaust so we could get to the trans side cover/clutch cable cover/ball ramp cover... whatever, the chrome cover on the side of the trans. Pulled, that and then hooked up the new cable... PITA as ALWAYS!!!

Mounted up the new risers, to accommodate the INSANE 1.5" bars!!
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Lift%20Wrenching/Lance/IMG_2333.jpg

Unwired the left & right control wiring & throttle by wire wiring, then fished it through the bars. That was a task but not too bad. I spent about 1.5 hours working on the wiring extensions, that he was told he needed. Stripping, snipping, and adding pins to the end of about 30 wires, just to find out, we didn't really need em!! While I was doing that, he was fishing the bars. So we could have maybe saved some time with this, as I could have MAYBE been doing something else... but oh well. Added some shrink tubing and fished that mess from the bottom of the bars, through the new risers. BAM!
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Lift%20Wrenching/Lance/IMG_2337.jpg

Up till this point, we did nothing but remove, prep, replace, rerun, etc... but not till this point have we did the actual point in the mod... INSTALL NEW BARS!!
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Lift%20Wrenching/Lance/IMG_2335.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Lift%20Wrenching/Lance/IMG_2336.jpg

That took 7 FREAKIN HOURS!!! Sure we stopped to eat a bit, but not much... this shit is freaking INSANE!!!

Then another 4 hours of pure wiring and routing wiring and testing and re-doing and testing HELL!! The new brake line 3 line come together thing under the tripples... yeah screw that thing! PITA!! And don't even get me started about his ignition key! That was 30 mins of pure F'in stupid... TWICE and therefor an extra hour!!! I could do mine in 8 seconds but couldn't get his in 30 mins! I think Motor City F'ed somin up there when they replaced it a while back.

My mighty vac rocked the F'in house! Sucked the brake lines dry in a minute, during dis-assembly. Then when we finally got to bleeding the brakes it FLEW through that. Suck suck sucking it's way to great brake feel. NO LEVER PUMPING BS!! Best & easiest part of the day!!

So a grand total of 13 hours from start to finish...

I was more concerned about weather and bike washing. Is there somewhere you can tuck it up or somin?

I'll figure it out. I think I will be able to disconnect it up in the front if I want.

It's black but I need to get it painted. I need to find someone to match the denim for me for a decent price.

I also ordered my yaffe turn signal eliminators. I got them from a member on the road glide site for 40 bucks. The last thing I want to try and get this season is the ghost fairing bracket which clean up the crash bars a lot. Then its just assemble and disassemble a few things.

I like what you did to your bike rug, looks awesome. Why don't you try the John Deere black blitz on it? You threw that stuff on here a while back, I tried it on a couple small pieces and looked good.

I would......Give it a test run on one of your other shields, see what it turns out like, then you'll know.

This was painted with the blitz black in this shot so thats what I'm going with. This is also the guy who makes the mean mug and the bezel in this pic was his first prototype

Heres how the bike is sitting right now dropped the parts off at jeffs the other day and I'm picking them up on tuesday.
http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz2/lrpetric/image_zps9ec4672a.jpeg

I got the primary, crash bars and highway peg mounts, dash, and forks at jeffs.
http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz2/lrpetric/image-3_zps781cbcd8.jpeg

Everything went well I did have to by some big ass wrenches since I didn't have the 1 3/8 for the fork caps.
http://i808.photobucket.com/albums/zz2/lrpetric/image-1_zps328988f9.jpeg

Then after they got slid out the top of the forks didn't want to loosen so a vice with rubber dish glove around it had to do.

Copied this from the road glide site. I've also got the x-grip on and you can see it in the pic.

Well another windshield thread but every one is always asking so here is my experience along with everyones favorite PICTURES!!!!

So I've been riding with the toenail on for the past year and it's not bad for me but getting ready for shark week and I went with a 10" windvest in black. It was only after much reading of threads I finally went with it. My only other experience is with a 10" windsplitter which was the same as stock and I also through on a 12" and 10" harley shields after I painted them. The 12 worked awesome but look like poo. The 10 looked good but buffeted like crazy. So I figured the flip on the windvest would give me a little more and still look good.

I am 6' with a 32" inseam and riding a '12 custom with stock saddle and I slouch with the apes. I only have about a 5 mile ride in with a ton of wind we are having today and will have a better review shortly. However, as of right now I like the looks. The fitment is perfect and I didn't push any well nuts through using chainsaw's trick. The ride was great and as long as it works on a little longer ride might never come off.

here are the pics.

Are you getting that shield? It looks great. I also think the black Kury windshield trim would look very good. Its one of the few kury things I like.
