I'm a Amsoil all the way guy... besides in the wife's bike because she doesn't do enough miles per year to validate the extra money spent on syn oil.

Otherwise I run Amsoil in everything.

You?

Other than a recent experiment with Brad Penn for the sporty, I run synthetic in one car that gets the most use and my bikes. I but cheap shit in spare car and work truck.

Well.... I've had the SG for about 3 months now and have used the old dinosour HD oil 20-50 and the HD primary and trans fluid only. Works for me!

Don't worry Moe... we'll get you on Amsoil soon enough.

Remember Moe... on dino oil HD recommends 2500 mile oil changes... but 5k if you run syn.

Ive got 92k plus of hard miles on my scoot using plain ole HD 20W50. Change it around between 3000 and 4000 or more not anal about it. Bike runs like a top and doesn't burn a drop. No need for syn anything for me its over priced. I cant believe you guys are actually doing an oil thread ....lol

Gas man we need a cite...... Ive never heard that HD recommends a Dino change at 2500 miles never seen that in print from HD. 3000 is over kill 2500 is ridicules

Change when it looks dirty its that easy.

Hey I hear ya.. after looking and looking for this... I realize it could be enduldged by the dealer... I don't have a site but how's this?

I know that I change my primary oil way more than the HD manual states because it, as you said, looks dirty as hell. I usually change it each time I do the motor oil(done at 5k) and do the trans once a year now that I have it on Amsoil 75-110

Mobile1 here, but mostly because Motor City HD carries it. If you change your oil every 5K I doubt it makes a material difference between synth and dyno.

Regular old conventional oil for my bikes. Valvoline 10/40 motorcycle for the R1 every 2K miles, once and a while I will run Yamalube when I can get the kit with filter & oil for a decent deal. And what ever name brand is on sale for the daily driver every 3-4k.

That wouldn't surprise me advise from the stealer that is..... I believe If I remember correctly 5k was the recommendation for the HD 20W50 its either on the can of oil or in my service manual. I do aprox 5 or so k on the primary and trans once a season.

Yeah I do 5k as well. But I run syn...

The biggest thing is to change it when it's bad... when it is bad is a matter of opinion unless you're getting it tested.

mine varies a lot too - if I am just cruising I could go 10k.. if I do 6 track days in a year I change it 3-4 times.. if I do cruising, mixed with "spirited" back road riding and a track day or 2 (most likely scenario) then I change it about 2 times a year..

5K also. Engine and primary using the Scavenger for the engine oil. Trans 1X per year. I also change my fork oil every year.

Every 3000--3500 miles on oil for me. I also change the primary and trans as well at the same time. A bit overkill perhaps but I just feel a hell of a lot better knowing I have clean fluids .

i usually use castrol t4 in the bikes. i wanted to try amsoil and moblie1 for bikes and with vacation comming up i figured that would be the time to try them. the 1200 don't like 10w 40, lots of valve noise so i went back to castrol 20w50. after returning from vacation the only oil in the garage for bikes was mobile1, you ever loose 4qts of oil? :)

If you run syn in the trans that could go to once a year easily.

Loose 4 qrts and NOT because I poured them in the motor without putting in the plug... um no then.

Agree with Chris on the trans. Using synth it comes out looking brand new after a year.
