Some of you may know my brother in law, Nasty Nate. He has his old 1977 Mustang II from when he was a teenager. He loves this thing... but it's been a slow project...

A couple of years ago we hauled it out of his mom's garage to get professionally sandblasted

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG00141.jpg

Last year...We tore apart the old 289" motor and getting rid of these steel heads
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/Motor004.jpg

We got the block bored to 302", prepped, and setup
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/Motor001.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/Motor002.jpg

In the last few weeks he decided to start hitting the stuff harder. He has done lots of body and suspension work to get ready to drop the motor in. So we busted out the manual
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_1827.jpg

Got to putting in the crank with the bearings.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_1822.jpg

Checked the bearing cap press and crank endplay.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_1819.jpg

Nasty is lovin it.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_1823.jpg

Starting to get some where.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_1825.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_1818.jpg

We have pistons!
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_1826.jpg

He, for reasons beyond me, decided to use press fit pistons & connecting rods. So we heated the connecting rods
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_1824.jpg

That didn't go so well, even with the torch, so we ended up taking them to the shop to press fit them in. Moving on...

He got too excited to wait for our schedules to align so he put in the pistons. I have no pics of that. But I got him an awesome deal on a set of nice Dart Alum heads. So he installed those over the pistons... Oh my they are great looking.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_1933.jpg

Hydraulic lifters primed & installed
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_1932.jpg

He scored a sweetheart deal on a Tr 3550 trans, alum flywheel with steel insert, and low profile bell housing. Also bought a nice oil pan that should help fitting this into the 77. So got those mounted up and almost ready for drop in test fit.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_1931.jpg

He needs to pick up some steel stock to fabricate motor mounts in the front of the bike. That's where we stand right now. Will update as it goes along... it may be slow.

nice osb wheel and, as always, great (unedited) picture work assman.. you the man.. not sure why all the work for a 77 mustang but to each their own.. at least do a cool 67-71 or something. 77 is kind of a bad year imo..

My first car was a 75 Mustang. Lotta work and upgraded to a 78. The 78 was a Cobra copy, 302 4 speed, fun car. Next was a 70 Mach 1 with a Boss 302 motor. The drag pack, 3.91 rear end, quick ratio 4 speed made an awesome car. That is the one I miss.

I hear ya on the 77... but it was his first car so he's attached to it.

I don't recall the cam. I'll have to ask again.

I believe he has an intake but no carb yet.

Not sure about the gear either. It's not really my project I just help when we can connect. Just thought you all would enjoy it.

Nice work Gasman, so is he looking to have it driving in Spring?

I'm not taking the credit... it's 80% him.

He's in a completion competition with a co-worker of his. They both have had the projects as long, and were about the same closeness to done. So now they are seeing who finishes first.

Motor mounts custom fabbed and motor/trans dropped in

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_2247.jpg

Need to get an offset shifter. The short bell housing helped clear the fire wall, but it put the shifter forks on top of the trans about 6"-8" further forward than the stock hole in the floor.

Next on the docket, work on the trans mount.

Intake and valve covers on really makes it look like something...

Went over tonight to lend a hand working on this trans mount. He wanted a 2nd set of eyes and some help with the grinding and such...

I forgot to take a picture of the mount itself... but let's just say, it went from a solid piece, to a weak flimpsy thing, back to a solid piece.

Got a few pics of Nate doing some welding
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_2682_zpscb40518a.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_2687_zpse4c05b84.jpg

Lots of cutting and grinding
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_2683_zps148ab3de.jpg

And we cut this big hole in the tunnel because the new big-o-trans keeps hitting.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Family/Nate%20and%20Andrea/1977%20Mustang/IMG_2684_zps5d0a7cab.jpg

Then put in some relief cuts, so we can step up the tunnel and raise it for clearance.

He's got some time off work this coming week so now he is setup for some one man work.

It was fun to spend a few hours working with the metal. Something I don't get to do that often but enjoy.

Ok so lots has happened with this...

The bell housing we were trying to use didn't work. We got another one finally after waiting for it to be basically custom made. That took 2 months... Got it on last weekend, then had to alter the motor mounts to move it back another inch.

Then the trans mount needed to be remade... used some heavy duty tube

Nate did a great job on it

Then started to work on the front peripherals. Had to use a pipe nipple as a spacer for the alternator.
