.... if it includes motorcycles:

This is a huge cost of trading up, most states only tax on the difference.

Exactly correct. I believe most states, however, only tax you on the difference. Not so in Michigan.

so they tax the hell out of everything but wanna drop the tax on buying a car? yeah like that really helps anybody, they'll buy the car anyways taxed or not. i only know a few people that buy a car with cash. everybody else takes a loan out and the dealer hate dealing in cash lol.
how about they bring manufacturing back to michigan !!!! now that will help the working people.

How about adjusting the price of plates? The owner shouldn't have to pay more for a plate because the car costs more. The owner buying a used car shouldn't have to pay plate prices based on original car MSRP. I think car plates should be like bike plates... flat rate.

In NY its based on the weight of the vehicle.

thats why people transfer a plate from a cheap car onto there higher cost car !!!
i know a guy that transfers his plates, every plate starts from a $300 car lol.

That doesn't help. It will only help for the remaining time on the plate till your next bday.

And a $300car doesn't help either because your plates on a 20yr old car is based off it's original NEW MSRP. So a 20 year old $30k car plate is more than a brand new $20k car plate.

I heard back from my local congressperson. Apparently it *does* include motorcycles.
