So I really dislike the stock air cleaner on my 98XLH hugger. If I have to tuck my knee in, the bloody thing whacks me in the knee cap. So I was looking in the parts bin and thought to my self "Why not pilfer the air cleaner from your uncle's 79 ironhead?"

Thus started another episode of "Simple things are prone to not being simple."

But I'll leave out the drudgery of running all over looking for off the shelf work arounds, and jump to the slice and dice.

rubber sheet from plumbing store, lid ring from a canister from IKEA

cut my gaskets,

test fit assembly

1611
test fit on bike, cuss at a minor over sight for clearing the studs that hold the aircleaner cover on. drink beer, fix issue

remount, fire up bike and test ride before putting the tools away.

I'm iffy on if this has impacted performance one way or the other. Zip didn't feel like she was running any different.

There was at one point the thought of grabbing an air cleaner from a 18wheeler but decided that would be a bit over kill.
