View Full Version : My 2012 yard project

I have been talking about this for a few weeks...

Well I have had this same story a bunch of times... wind + 25yr old cedar fence and you get this...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/House/2012%20Yard%20Project/BadFence001.jpg

So I'm sick of it!

I am also sick of it taking 2 hours to water my grass after work...

I am also sick that half my backyard was rocks, that were put there 20 years ago by the city.

So last year we moved all the rocks out... some to the front yard, some to caveman, some to the neighbors, and lots to my bud across town...

I realized I didn't want to tackle the fence myself. Plus the contractor vinyl fencing is better quality than the lowes/home depot junk. Took on a bunch of estimates... signed with some contractors...

217' of fencing, one 10' gate in the back, one 4' gate in the front, removal of all the old fencing & footings, and haul away. Lifetime warranty, local company, and the owner lives 3 blocks away...

Seriously, That's going to look nice and the no maintenance factor is huge to me, I did my composite deck 10 years ago, still looks new.

Thanks Bill. All this type of stuff is why I'm always so busy... ugh.

My deck is already vynal so I'm set there. Did the siding, trim, and gutters a few years ago. As well as the kitchen, both upstairs bathrooms, and all the painting upstairs.

Good thing Chris is not a contractor - the job would cost 100x more than it should and take 50x longer than it should because of all the pictures. But it will be a nice addition to the downriver history books in 100 years.

Moe,
The sealer that you have, is it clear? I would like to reseal my driveway or Parking lot as Gas calls it, after I am done with my yard project. Sorry no pics for me I don't document every second of my life and projects like Gas. :lmao: Sometimes wish I did so that I can see the cool before and after pics. Oh well, Eff it.

No doubt Bill, I think that he spends more time doin all those pictures than riding sometimes. :lmao: and I can attest that even before the project started two years ago with the start of the rock removal it was not a very pretty back yard. Too small for poor Brinks to run around in and only pissed Gas off when he would shit in the rocks. Hard to get that puppy soft serve shit out of a pile of rocks.:td: After seing some of the boulders of concrete they pulled with those posts they are gonna need a truck of backfill just to set the new ones.

How often is regular concrete need sealer? His was just done... 1-3 years Gman. Now it all depends on the type of sealer you use and the wear and tear you put on your driveway. Sealers are one of those things that you get what you pay for. A good commercial sealer like we use typically lasts 3 years but I would recommend every 2 years on a residential driveway.

Iv sealed tile and things of that nature, but never concrete. I hope I don't sound like too much of a dumb ass but what exactly is the benefit of sealing concrete?? Iv invested money around my house with concrete work and if sealing it is beneficial then I might wanna consider taking some action.. Nothing is stamped, but I do have alot of flat work...

Gas Man
05-16-2012, 10:50 PM
I'm with Denim on that... the only thing I have ever seen sealed in concrete world was stamped concrete...

Spent about 10 hrs cutting the grass, fixing the new cable line, fixing tons of other little stuff, and power washed the siding/windows/shed(inside & out)/front porch/deck. Got plenty sun burnt...

Re-organized the deck after power washing...

To keep right with the law, the fire pit needs to be covered, so I went to work...

standard weber 22" grill grate... add on some thin wall conduit so it doesn't fall into the 26" hole... a plastic handle to I can grab it.

Ever since we have lived here, we have wanted a tree, but never knew where to put it, what to get, etc, etc...

We decided on a Emperor I Jap Maple. Season long red, average size is 15'T x 15'W, can take full sun if watered regulerly. We chose this spot, because it doesn't block the umbrella tree or the porch arches, further it will block the view to the dining room window behind it.

Got my little bro to help

Placement is also good cause it will get hit from 4 rotor sprinklers

Not bad for a $94 tree

The old tree didn't make the 100* temps at the same time it was planted...

Warranty exchange... Father in law says... best time to plant trees is in the fall in any month ending in "R".

Carefree upgrade us to the next size up for the hassle... stand up place!!
