This was their second time shooting. My 11 year old wasn't interested in shooting the .22 anymore so she graduated to a .38 revolver and a .410 baby shot gun. They are damned good shots and were able to keep a tight pattern with the pistol and the rifle. We were out shooting for about 4 hours Sunday. It was a gorgeous day.

I wish I had land that I could take the kids out to shoot on. I had my daughter shoot my glock .40 when she was 5 so that she would understand the dangers of it. Unfortunatly I haven't had her out on a weapon again since. Perhaps I will go find a nice .22 rifle I can teach the kids how to shoot on this summer. I should be able to teach them how, thats what I was doin the last three years in the Army teachin dopey Privates how to shoot better than just the get qualified and outta my face attitude from thier basic training.

I know of a lot of people who love the P22 (I've shot it before and I rather like it myself, and I have pretty small hands even for a woman. If I were to get a .22 autoloader, that would be the one, esp. since it's "little brother" to the P99 in case one should ever want to transition easily). And hell, let's admit it: it's nice-looking, too. I've read, though, that they can be hit-or-miss depending on the year-- apparently more "miss" in the early years than the later, though I can no longer remember which serial numbers to avoid. Also, some of them like to eat only the expensive ammo, but again it seems to depend on the particular one you get as I know of people who swear theirs will only take Stingers without jamming, others who say they could feed theirs any Wal-Mart crap from the get-go, and the in-betweeners who had to break theirs in with the expensive stuff and then could graduate to anything they wanted to give it.

The only weird thing about it is that the mag release is, like, ON the trigger guard... takes some getting used to. But it's definitely the .22 pistol with the largest number of good reviews that I've read about, inc. many from small-handed users (both female and kid).
