The SD Governor and tourism marketing people released a new website SD Rides (http://www.southdakotarides.com/). They say it's to promote MC safety and education. It looks like a decent site and it is boasting some safety stuff such as their nice FAQ (http://www.southdakotarides.com/motorcyclesafety/faqs/) that is packed full of GREAT info!!

They also have a great survey (http://www.southdakotarides.com/motorcyclesafety/survey/)for you to take.

Either way I wonder if Michigan could step up to this plate?

Nice. I bet a big chunk of their tourism is motorcycle based.

I couldn't find it, but I read a few years ago that Sturgis Motorcycle week made up a crazy amount of the state budget for the entire year, it was a crazy # like over 1/2.... Any one can tell you, (that's been there and ventured away from the DT event) NO matter where you go them 2-3 weeks, there are bikes EVERYWHERE! We've been clear over into the middle of Wyoming and it was similar to being with in a few miles of DT Sturgis. (Bike traffic)

Nice site BTW.

First thing Michigan needs to do to increase motorcycle tourism is lift the helmet law. I will always wear my helmet but I know many people won't visit our state because they don't want to wear their helmets. I read an article once that talked about how much revenue that would bring to the state but it was a long time ago and I can't remember the amount.

I have heard that before as well.
