I'm always looking for new bbq. Wife says I'm obcessed.

Round House in Trenton
Red Smoke in Greektown
Sweetwater Tavern in Downtown

Couple of weekends ago Caveman and I rode around in circles touring downtown and some shady surrounding areas. Ended up at Slow's BBQ on Michigan Ave. I love that place.

Today I have the bike at work, I'm feeling better after being sick for 2 weeks. At least well enough to ride. It's over 50* outside... I have my sights set.

Bad Brad's BBQ in New Baltimore. I think I'm giong... and real real soon. Just trying to wrangle another rider...

If not I'll roll out solo...

WHAT???

Well we went. It wasn't exactly warm along the lake but well worth it because of the scenery.

Here's my review of the food

(after action review) Sorry to hear, but thanks for warning me. Had bad bbq last highly praised place I went too (far from here).

Only place I have been around here is Slo's, and it was good.

Urban spoon saved me from mentioning lockharts....bummer, that place makes my mouth water when I walk nearby.

I do love slows.

Lockharts?

I think woodshop is in my wishlist on urbanspoon. If not should I add it?

I just read about those two on urban spoon since you linked me to it. I walk by lockharts and it smells good, but reviews suck. Reviews of woodshop are good. I have nothing to say about either. Wood rather try woodshop though.

Lockharts was good when I had it. I've only been once and got the quadruple bi-pass*sandwich*and enjoyed the hell out of it. I like that at the table there are 4 dif kinds of bbq sauce to add since I like dif sauces on dif things it worked well for me.

I recently have been going to Real's Barb-Q in Lincoln park because it is close and they have carry out. The food isn't anything to rave about but I haven't been*disappointed*yet.

Of course slo's is amazing*

Those wings at sweetwater are probably some of the best I ever had.

I think I looked at lockharts on urbanspoon... I chose to not go.

I have Union Woodshop in my wish list.

Sweetwater isn't a bbq, so even IF the wings weren't the best, you can excuse it, they aren't proclaiming to be a BBQ place. That is my problem with Bad Brads, they claim to be a BBQ place but make BS errors like frying their smoked wings!

Here's the place I want to try in LP

Zukins used to be THE place for bbq in lincoln park. I used to go there a lot when i lived in southgate. Last couple times i went though it was hit and miss, sometimes really good, others pretty ordinary. I would suggest carry out if you go there, theres tables inside to eat, but its not really meant for it. He does probably 80%+ business carry-out. For a chain bbq joint Real BarBQ in lincoln park on dix/toledo wasnt half bad. I went there for lunch the other day and was pretty happy with the pulled pork. You can also try Westpoint BBQ in Dearborn on Michigan Avenue. The few times i went it was always pretty good. Now I like slo's as much as anyone, but that neighborhood isnt one i want to park my bike, car, or ass in if i can help it. I heard good things about R.U.B. BBQ downtown, almost directly across from comerica park. I had friends eat there a few times before tigers games this summer and they commented on how good the food and beer selection was. I have to get down and check it out myself if anyone is up for a ride down there one night.

Hope that helps give ya a few trip ideas Chris. Im always up for good bbq myself, i just dont like what it does to my midsection now that ive passed 40.

Thanks for the Zukins tip.... carry out.

I've eatin Westpoint many many times, work use to get carry out for meetings from there. It's ok.

I hear about slows... when I went down there a few weeks ago on the scoot I parked it across the street and within view of the dining room.

For some reason we end up at Lockharts each time I come home (probably because it's in the middle). The food's awesome and the beer selection's great. The service sucks, the wait is nuts and parking's a bitch, but it's RO. You get what you get.
My Amish butcher says that Randy's Roadside Barbeque in Onsted is the best in the state. We rolled by on out way out of town in Sept. I cried a little when we didn't stop. I know some guys that pick some up on their way to MIS.
Enjoy your barbeque, I'll be having a steak and kidney pie instead :td:
