With winter approaching I decided to tear into my bike and address my oil consumption issue. My bike used a LOT of oil. Leaking valve guide seals it seems. Of coarse this fouls the plugs combustion chambers and intake valves with carbon buildup.

Since the heads had to come off for guide and seal work, and that is 90% of the work needed to remove cylinders and pistons and 75% of the work needed to remove cams......

I will be putting it back together with ported heads, slightly larger bore, new 10.5 pistons and .575 cams. :boobs:

Putting it away for winter might be delayed.......

Bravo! Who's going to do the heads? Port smoothing and bigger valves? Raised floors and automotive valves, from Redford maybe?

Yes, some guy in Redford. Not going to change valve size though. Bill seemed to think that is not needed on 2004+ sportster heads, and I think he is right. http://www.bishopsperformance.com/

All I have so far are cams and lifters. New cams compared to stock...

Stock "W" cam

New SE .575 cam

Increase in lift is .100, not too visible, but the increase in duration sure shows!

Thanks. If it just doesn't burn oil, I have a really expensive valve job, but I am hopeful I have a faster Sporty now!

Looks great man and you're not asking for much.

I can say that if i went through all that I would have did more head work and then I would have asked for more performance. You did some more power and have reasonable expectations. I think you'll be happy with it.

Tell us about those wacky pistons fella. Me thinks that the CR changed, or are they clearanced for the cam?

Chris

I think I will get plenty of performance, I just don't want to brag and disappoint:tremble:.

Chris

Wiseco 10.5-1 pistons. They have a little raised dome for compression and pretty big valve cuts for high lift and bigger valves.

Guess I dropped the ball on this thread. I finished it up and broke it in nice. It seems to have quite a bit more power, but because of the weather I can't get it on a dyno for real world tune.

Cool thread, I just found it.
I'm new here, what year sporty is it and how many miles dose she have. I've had 2 1200-C and I ran them preaty hard and I never had to touch the motors or have any problems with them. Both had stage-1 with stock motors...Looking forward to up-dates when Michigan lets you ride again.
