View Full Version : Do something right for a change.....

On Thursday June 16th there is a 17' long x 4' wide beam from the World Trade Center being shipped to Brown City for a memorial. There are several groups trying to put together as large an escort as possible. It sounds like the meeting place is the Michigan welcome Center on I-75 by Monroe. It's not supposed to arrive there until 3:00 pm, so plan on a long day.

If anyone is interested let me know and I'll get what info I can.

I thought you were done with school? Or is this Paramedic training? How's the job going?

Get the info. I am definitely interested and I am sure I can round up 20-30 bikes. This is definitely something different. I can get the time off no problem. This sounds like a very picture worthy event. A piece of history from the day the government killed it's own people.

Get the info.

Here is what we know... There will be a group of bikes leaving from the Brown City fire station (KSU=noon) and making their way to the welcome center on I75 near the Ohio border. They will meet up with the Brown City Fire Department and members of NBC Nightly News who are bringing the artifact back from NY. As of now they are expected to arrive about 3:00. We will then follow them back to Brown City to where the artifact will become part of a memorial monument.

Route Plan: I75 north to US 23 North to I69 East to M53 North to M90 East to Brown City (about 2 hours and 39 minutes one way according to google maps)

More info:

Looks like the new meetup spot is Cabelas at 2:30 pm. Much better, I hope that means straight up US-23 instead of through Detroit.

Latest news. Right now we are expecting the beam to come in to Cabela's around 5pm, maybe sooner so meeting at 4pm. Me, Dirt, and a couple others, possibly Fishman, will meet at one of the restaruants by Cabela's around 3 for some grub.

The hour keeps getting pushed back. They're going to try and make Brown City by 8:00, but even at that I'd have a 2-1/2 hour ride home. If there's any kind of ceremony or whatever it'd be way too late on a work night. Our current plan is to meet them at Cabela's and ride with them until we feel it's time to peel off, letting time dictate.

Very unorganized ride but I'm glad I was there. The weather mostly cooperated, ended up being a little more than 100 bikes

A few pics of the beam. They don't know which tower it came from. The levels were color coded. this one had some yellow paint left so they know it came from one of the underground parking levels. It's about 17' long and weighs 16,800 lbs.

Take a look at how thick that steel is!
