I'm trying to dig up some good off the way bars & dinners in about an hour's (+or-) ride of the Canton Plymouth area. Any suggestions? Even a general store out in the boonies will do.

More than an hour but I'm a big fan of Dark Horse in Marshall.
If you're heading towards the ghetto there's The Stone House, South of the State Fairgrounds. They have a burnout pit.
Grand Trunk Tavern (Foran's) is my favorite downtown.
On my side of town there's Eastside Tavern, a former speakeasy literally in someone's (Frank's) basement.

Been going to this place for >40 years. Still my favorite joint. Bell's beer on tap, or you can get a can of Stroh's for $1.50. Great burgers.

Plus, the Inverness is smack in the middle of the WSL. From the Inverness you can head out to Waterloo, Pinckney, etc.

I like to goto Dragonmead out in Roseville. It's not a dive bar, but a brewery...

+1 on the Inverness, a definite favorite.

Another one is Boneheads in Willis, MI. About halfway between Belleville and Milan.

The Little Brown Jug in Maybee has a great burger, and it's smack dab in the middle of the 'Tail of The Anole'.

If there weren't a bunch of great microbreweries I'd agree with you. Unfortunately I can't pick the best out of them.
Kuhnhenn's in Warren has great beer even if the location isn't great and the service can be a challenge.
Founder's in GR has both great beer and an awesome location.

Bell's on tap?! I foresee that I'll be on a 1st name basis with the staff by the end of the season... I used to make table lamps from the bubba kegs of Oberon I drank. The ex wife used to joke if I had kept 'em all I could have built garage with them.

Ended up taking North Teritorial all the way out to Inverness... nice ride, and a good place indeed.

Downriver wise, Oak cafe in Wyandotte has decent bar food and probably the best beer selection in the area. They have a variety of stuff on tap from bells, shorts, founders and others if your into local brews.

Waltz Inn in waltz township near the monroe county border has really good (but a bit pricey) food but with a mediocre beer selection. The atmosphere though is old time turn of the century tavern and is worth the trip, especially if your taking the wife or girlfriend out for dinner.

Hell-fire & Dam-nation! Who'da thunk it? There was a grease fire last Saturday at the Dam Site Inn in Hell. Closed, not sure for how long.

I love Iron Mikes I used to eat lunch and dinner there every thursday while I was at my medic class because the school was in New Boston. Not many choices out that way but Iron mikes beats out all the others.

$2.50 bud light drafts, free popcorn, and of course their slider plate with fries makes this a great cheap stop.

Just found this thread again and wanted to add to the list:

SweatWater Tavern- Downtown (Best wings and fries ever)
Jolly Pumpkin- Old Mission Peninsula just north of traverse city.

I also hear that Shorts brewery in Bellaire is amazing and has some awesome drink combos like a PB&J beer with awesome pulled pork nachos. I will be trying it out next time I'm at the girlfriends cabin.

PB & J Stout
Available any time Über Goober (http://www.shortsbrewing.com/beer/our-portfolio/specialty-beers/uber-goober-oatmeal-stout/) is on tap. Take our popular Peanut Oatmeal Stout and blend it with our famous flagship fruit infused rye ale, The Soft Parade, and viola! The result, a liquid version of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. This customer created concoction can also be found in bottles as a limited specialty release.

the place is a hoot, its been a bar since 1948. Supposedly a hang out for the Purple Gang.

Its in a very iffy neighborhood, which only adds to the fun. Its east of Woodward and south of the fair grounds.

The crowd there is, lets just say, very seasoned bikers. Nice folks, but hard core for sure. And not young.
