I've been tossing around the idea of another .22. My son and daughter both love to shoot, but the centerfires are so expensive. With only the Ruger MKIII in .22, we have to take turns.

The GSG 1911 looks really interesting. I've held one in my hand and tried to buy it but the shop just got the first one in and he wanted to put it in the case for a few weeks to see if there was any interest. It was gone in a few days. He's now trying to get more.

Reviews on it are great. It looks and feels exactly like a .45, less recoil and noise, that's about it. Might be a little lighter, I'm sure they had to take some weight off the slide, but not by much. One guy said he's put over 8,000 rounds through his with no problems, and says the accuracy is similar to his Browning Buckmark.

These are selling for around $325. comparing that to .45ACP ammo, even if I reload, the .22 is worth it for extended shooting.

A .22 1911? That's like a 4 cylinder muscle car. :p

Yeah, but it'd be nice to shoot a 1911 all day for $20!

The 1911 is about the most fun you can have shooting. Since we already have one in the house that's .45ACP, this would be a fun alternative.

Last time I shot the league there was a guy with a 1911 Colt and the .22 conversion kit. It jammed every two or three rounds. He ended up running a cleaning rod through the bore and brushing out the breach constantly just to get through the day. That's a $1,000 gun with a $300 conversion kit. The Kimber conversions are around $300 too. Plenty of people are shooting .22's in the 1911 frames, but it makes no sense to spend $1300 just to save money on ammo.

Just noticed Browning is offering a 22 cal 1911 this year. I don't know anything about it though.

Here's Browning's. More of a traditional look on the trigger, hammer, sights, and tail. Looks great, but it's scaled down to 85% of the full size gun, that kind of kills it for me. I think they missed the boat, the idea for most people shooting a 1911 .22 is to shoot a 1911 on the cheap. Their marketing indicates they're going for the women.
