Going to re-wire Chopper Dave's Big Dog K9 on the 2nd. We started out inviting a few guys familiar with the kit, like Alhall, and N8KAM for just more tech help (being the mechanic he is and he's thinking about doing the same re-wire). Anyway, it led to a wrench day. Dave's also got a HID to install and his fluids to be changed.

Last time (a few years ago) we did this we had a few bikes there, and a couple to work on.

Hell even Mad Dog Don showed up from New York. You just never know...

So if you don't know where I live, PM me for adress/directions. If you do know... then ok. If you have something on your bike you need done. It shouldn't be a problem, bring the bike & parts, ship the parts to the house before hand... whatever.

Let us know if you're stoppin by. We'll either hang out during & after, go for a ride (weather permitting) or hit up a local bar for drinks & food. Who knows...

I'm off that day so I might stop by. Don't need anything done to the bike and I'll probably be in the area anyways.

i may just have to stop out there

got a link for the wiring kit? i just wanna check it out.

It's a wires plus kit
http://www.wire-plus.com/

Here's the how to
http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/how/7946-how-wire-plus-hand-control-module-ehc-removal.html

Also he wants to do an ignition key replacement
http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/how/10654-how-ignition-switch-swap-sportster-style.html

Fluid change (1st on the list on a warm bike) and install an HID in it.

Sounds like there will be some people coming and going and hanging... Hopefully the weather will co-operate.

Anyone notice the garage sale next door? I think your neighbor suffered a little from people afraid to get out of their cars.:drag:

On second thought I do have some fork boots that I would like to put on my bike but dont have a bike jack to jack the front end up maybe I could tackle that that day.

Bring it over rugby... that will require pulling the front wheel, dropping out the forks then putting it all together. I have a jack that can do that in the garage.

The weather has started to do it's predictions... looks like no rain and temps of 46. Good enough to ride a bit.

Well weather is wintery mix for the wrench day, so I'm sure it will be a different look out front and the garage door will probably be closed. So using the side entrance will be needed. I made this sign to post outside. But thought it was worth a post... for good reasons!

The house has been sided
The grass is f'ed from the winter
Most of the guys will probably be in their cages
Brinks is a bunch bigger!!
Garage door probably won't be open.
One of the best guys I've ever met won't be PHYSICALLY present. RIP BIG AL!

While N8KAM (John) was studying the instructions and setting up for the big job. We changed all Dave's fluids. I just had to take this picture of the HD oil filter drain pan being used... it was out of the box. I thought it was funny

While John and crew was doing the wire plus, I was working on the sportster style key install. Drilled and tapped the two set screw holes, then installed the switch

Remounting the coil required the dremel to oblong out one of the mounting holes and shaving a little of the bottom side. Tight fit with the new key switch.

The boys got the wire plus modules mounted and started the process of wiring

This is a long and drawn out, time consuming processes. My hat's off to John. He was a MACHINE!!!
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Lift%20Wrenching/April%202nd%202011/WrenchDayDuece2011022.jpg

Not only was he testing wires constantly, but instead of relying on the crimp style of these pin connecting harnesses. He soldiered each and every wire.

Honestly, we couldn't have done this with out N8KAM (John). He was a freakin machine!!! He drove this wiring job. It may have been my "sponsored" event but John was the knocking out champ.

Later Dave & I installed a lowdownchopshop.com HID in his stock bdm housing. This is one of the few ever done with the adjure lamp. Take a peek.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Lift%20Wrenching/April%202nd%202011/WrenchDayDuece2011042.jpg

It was a LONG LONG day. We experienced "custom doesn't bolt on" all day. But we got through it all. But it's done and I want to thank everybody for helping, stopping by, drinking in the garage and just being there.

Chopper Dave
N8KAM (John)

And finally... Big Al looking down on us. We shared many stories about good ole Al. Man did we miss him!

Looks like a great day with some really cool work being handled. Greg,(Sprink), and I had our own out to Gratten Raceway, stripping down our "beastly" Harleys to do battle on the track. What an awesome experience and learning lesson. Another time we'll have to share with you all the escapades of the "Boss Hoss" that also attended. Maybe we can make the next one!

Great job guys and Dave remember the off/on switch functions a little differently now. This screwed with me for awhile. 1st turn the key and go directly to the start button not run. Think of the stop/run button as a stop only.
