I believe he's trying to help me out, thanx Bob,
I have a 90 zx10 that I want to swap the subframe on,
current subframe: http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb200/crazkene13/Picture005-1.jpg
what I'm thinking in terms of mounting points I'd like to add maybe:

*Note* the second pic is not my bike but a similar build that went bankrupt before being finished sadly.
I am in the metro detroit area, the frame is all aluminum, I wanted some bolt on points so I can fab my own subby or bolt one on, I also have one I was thinking of using.

I figured junkyardjon would know someone. Just don't pm him because he never responds unless you send him a nude pic of yourself or talk dirty.

I'd imagine that those arrogants over at DB would rape you to death on price.

I do have the subframe, front seat, and tail fairing, which is everything that is needed to fab up in the right spot.
Email me at kn101331@yahoo if you can refer me to someone.

They are just down the street from me but I'm afraid they might put the seat 2 inches off the ground and throw forward controls and spikes on it.:chop:

I think we've crossed 2 threads here:
Grants Yamaha is at Detroit Bros. for frame work.
Crazekene13 is looking for a tig guy.
Bob doesn't like DB.

LOL

Yeah, I've never been a fan of their work or their attitudes. And then seeing them on TV was even worse. LOL. But they might be good guys, I've never met them personally.

Yeah the actual Detroit brothers dave and james have real poor attitudes but their dad is a really nice guy and their fab guys are really nice too. I've only dealt with dave once and it was like I was just another number but I got what I want done so far at a pretty quick pace.

Gas Man

That's sad. It must be because they feel shafted in same way by not being all "jesse james" popular and rich.

I've always been treated real well by Dave and his guys. I've never met Jamie or their dad.

I can TIG it for free if it's not too involved. Just welding on some tabs that are already fit. -gotta make the trip over to Grand Rapids though.

Thanx for the offer guys, I don't really have the ability to fabricate the tabs, maybe something you could do?
I'm still riding for a few more days, gotta love my carhartt bibs, but once the season is really over I'm sure I'll be ready to cut the stock frame.
Once I cut the frame I'll have a real idea of where I need to locate things.
I have a pickup and ramps so G.R. or Dundee are not out of the question.

Need to keep it 2 up capable, alum welding? fab steel brackets and bolt on?
Need experienced fabricator advice, what's safe?
This is my first aluminum bike.
Chopsmitty and snowfrog, is this something you can help me with?
I don't even know where to get aluminum stock or what size/grade to look for?

Gas Man

That should be able to be done easily with some tig welding and like you said some flat alum stock. I suggest you PM chop or jon.

Hey! I tried to call you but your phone mailbox is full and won't accept new messages. If you bring the bike and leave it for a couple weekends, I'll do the work for $50. That's new machined 6061 alum tabs welded to the correct points, but you're going to have to repaint/refinish the areas I work on (I'll have to take the local areas down to bare clean alum.)

Hey, sorry I missed you, things have been a little crazy with the holidays, I have some time off soon.
1. That is a ridiculously good price, but I think you underestimate the upper mounts, the tubes I have drilled through for mock up are totally hollow.
They will have to be filled and gusseted I am sure.
2. I would rather have you do this work than anyone else I have dealt with, but it would be a 6 hour round trip for me to drop it off, I at least have to try to find someone locally. The thought of 6 hours x2 in my little 4 banger ranger is kinda rough.
3. Do you know anyone in the metro Detroit area who can weld aluminum?

I've done that drive many times in my little ranger. Take a buddy with you drop the bike off early head to Grand Rapids and hit up the bars hang out then stay at a cheap ass motel and come back the next day.

I know how you feel. I drive 100 miles a day in my 4 cyl/stick ranger... It's got 219,000 miles on it and has hundreds of thousands left in it. Offer still stands, just let me know if you can't find anyone closer.

Only guy I would reccommend is primarily a car guy, but he has done bike stuff and is an excellent fabricator - http://gilsbachracecraft.com/
Tell him I sent you.
