So after we ditched the year for Sturgis for a more economical trip, we decided to run up north, stop by her dads, travel thru wine country in Leelanau, run over the "Mighty Mac", up to "The Falls", by "The Locks", and stay in Mackinaw City.

We head out...
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX001.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX002.jpg

Welcome to "Up North", lots of this.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX027.jpg

We ran up 127 thru the heartland of Michigan, cutting right up the middle of the state while passing thru Lansing, its capital.

After stopping by the father in laws, we all rode in his truck over to wine country in Leelanau (http://www.leelanau.com/). I'm not much of a "wine-o (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wine-o)". But the wife is a bit of a wine lush.
But here we are outside Leelanau Cellars (http://www.leelanaucellars.com/), our favorite winery, even for me.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX047.jpg

That's that. The next day we head north to our true vacation trip. With the exception of our wine travels, doing this on the motorcycle is going to be grand and maybe slightly wet.

A while ago I posted about our new HD rain gear. Well on the trip north from Gaylord we hit some heavy rain... just stoping as we readied to cross the "Mighty Mac". The Mackinaw Bridge (http://www.mackinacbridge.org/)is an amazing feet in itself. If you read up on it, it's amazing that the state survived without it till 1957. Yes, amazing! But now it's the 3rd largest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere. WIKI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mackinac_Bridge)

The wife had been debating the lane choice (grate or concrete) she would suggest me to take. I said grate, she said concrete and construction gave us no choice... grate the whole way... IN THE RAIN! FUN!!!
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX048.jpg

Stop at the welcome center and find this amazing shot (and I didn't even plan it).
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX070.jpg

We hit St Ignas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Ignace,_Michigan) just over the bridge and grab something to eat at this well known restaurant, Mackinac Grill (http://www.mackinacgrille.com/).
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX072a.jpg

There are docks, and boats everywhere. This is truely a water town.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX078.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX079.jpg

An up north Michigan trip will always be riddled with lighthouses.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX084.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX085.jpg

With a full belly and a full tank, we head north up 123 into the great beyond that is known as the U.P. (Upper Penninsula (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_Peninsula_of_Michigan)).
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX095.jpg
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX096.jpg

You see glimpses of Lake Superior (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Superior).

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX106.jpg

When's the last time you saw a 76 gas station (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/76_(Conoco_Phillips))? For me it's been many many years.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX109.jpg

Tahquamenon Falls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tahquamenon_Falls), a part of the state park (http://www.exploringthenorth.com/tahqua/tahqua.html), is a great natural sight. Some say it's even more beautiful than Niagra falls.
We rented the little row boat and toured the island instead of taking the 8 mile walk path around the whole state park.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX166.jpg

Damn it was hot!

Continue on... we are at the Lower Falls first.

Hey Wifey!

This isn't bad, especially since I used the timer and ran over to pose...

To see the upper falls it requires LOTS of steps!!

It really is very nice here...

Left there and back down 123 to 28 to Sault Ste. Marie (http://www.saultstemarie.com/) to see the town and check out "The Soo Locks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soo_Locks)" again. Last time we were here was right after we got married with her dad and step mom in 2003.

After dinner at Frank Family Dining (http://www.franksplace-saultmi.com/), we head south.

You can even see the water

As we continue south to our hotel in Mackinaw City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mackinaw_City,_Michigan) and settle in
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX334.jpg

Plus notice the nice view
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX330.jpg

The next day we walk down the street to tour the USCGC Mackinaw (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USCGC_Mackinaw_(WAGB-83)).

And you know we would have to check out Zips HD
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX338.jpg

Eating lunch at the famous Darrow's Family Restaurant (http://www.darrowsrestaurant.com/). Ate some AMAZING pie that they are known for. YUM!

Just outside downtown Mackinaw City the Ultra sits next to Lake Huron.
http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l311/cjclark69/Vacations/Mackinaw%202KX/Mackinaw2KX428.jpg

The following day we end back at home after jaunting down I-75. It was a good trip, but it's always great to be home.

Nice ride man. That's all the places we usually end up when we go on vacation and don't really have a destination planned.

Nice Riders report Chris. Whitefish Point is a great place to go, so is Copper Harbor and the Pictured Rocks on Lake Superior. It's been over a decade since I've ventured quite that far north though.

how exactly can i be a bad influence on such a corrupted mind as yours?

it's like hey i have a ferrari enzo and you say hey i have a ferrari f50 gt it is better - umm no they basically cancel each other out as they are both purely bad ass..

so therefore i cannot possibly corrupt or be a bad influence on you..

I'll tell you what, we where behind a ZR1 on Woodward last Thursday and a Cobra was coming up behind us. I said to my buddy, "I thought the ZR1 would sound more muscley than it does." Then the Cobra tried to mess with it and the ZR1 took off. WOW! That stock exhaust sounded SWEET when he ripped on it.

Do they have those for real? I've always wondered why you don't see that any more. That used to be really popular on bikes and cars a looong time ago.

All electrical and stuff now. I remember when they had to be done with a cable. LOL

That's nothing... remember the dump exhaust Dave had on his buick?

The ZR1 and many of the SS models coming from the GM Performence dept come with real nice exhausts. Both of my SS (TB & HHR) have nice exhausts. Hell the HHR has a full out stainless steel exhaust even.
