I will be in need of a new rear tire soon. I'm checking prices. I'm also debating about buying a HF tire changer. Just gauging whether it's worth it or not.

So where?

DTP Muscle. I think they'll even do free shipping to Michigan now that they've moved. But that is where I got my set from.

I don't see my size in their selection. 180/65B16

I'm also going to check "The Shop" cause if I don't buy a mounter, they'll be mounting my tire anyway. Might be cheaper in the long run that way.

I waited to long before getting serious about a replacement, that sucker was really worn out. I started looking on line at the various retailers and nobody had what I wanted in stock. I swallowed hard and called two local dealers, nope, they didnt have it either. On a whim I decided to check with Rockys in Burton. They had 1 in stock. It was a bit more expensive than the on line retailers but when ya need it, ya need it.

Now I am good to go for a few more months.

Sometimes its worth supporting the local shop. If you never do, what will happen when they close their doors.

That being said... nearly every site online doesn't carry my replacement size in the HD Dunlop D407 series. I want to stick with OE because there is no benifit to switching. From what I have read the other alternatives offer no added milage or added grip (not that I've ever had a problem, my dunlops do great in rain clear up to 90mph). They are such a slight difference in price it's not worth it.

The Shop in Brownstown can get my HD tire for $210 instead of dealer $241.

However... I checked with the dealer on the HD Wheel & Tire Warrenty program.
3yrs = $400
4yrs= $450
5yrs= $500

Covers all labor (read wheels on bike), only replace with HD OE tires, no worries about out dated tires, and good at ANY HD dealer (HD program). It covers any nails, blow outs, pot holes, etc. Covers both rims and tires.

You have to have 3/32 of tread for replacement. So I guess I have bad luck with nails every 6,000-8,000 miles... At $300 (wheel off the bike) per rear wheel it won't take long to get my money back. That is for sure.

The only catch, with a used bike. You have to purchase 1 new HD tire (since mine is bald that works for me) to get warrenty.

So...

The last tire I'll ever buy for my Ultra will be on this Sat.

PS It took me all of 20 mins to drop that rear wheel off.

Heck, I see tread on that tire! Mine looked like a freaking racing slick in the middle. Like I said, I waited way to long.

I'll tell you when I switched from my Dunlops to the Avons my riding experience became so much better. The bike handles and corners so much nicer now.

Not the case with my bike's tires. There are only a few brands that even make a tire for mine.

Yeah, I was in the same boat. I think I got lucky finding the Avons and then finding white wall was even more fun.

Yeah... all the guys online say that the other brands dont really change much anyway. Plus as part of my deal.. it has to be a HD tire and they will always be replaced with hd tires.
