Is there a schedule anywhere where we could find a race to see here in Mi or Northern Ohio/Indiana ? Wasn't sure if they did any full on sportbike races or just trackdays. What tracks do you frequent and what would be the cost for a day? Completely newb on this subject so any help would be appreciated.

Best first track day of the year by far in this area and anywhere else that I know of is Team Chicago at Grattan first weekend of April - $25..

Average cost is $150 - premium tracks like Mid-Ohio are $200+. I would say Mid-Ohio is the best track within 4 hours of Detroit but it's drawback is, like Grand Rapids is the snow belt, it sits in the rain belt.. I have never been to Mid-Ohio and not got rained on..

We try to do a different track every year.. A couple of years ago we did VIR which was pretty fuggin sweet.. Last year was a little tight so no tracks out of this area.. This year I think we are hitting Autobahn..

But locally in Michigan you have 2 tracks - Grattan and Gingerman

Grattan is way more technical with elevation changes, off camber, etc. I can't remember if it was (or is) Motor Trend or Car and Driver but one of them did testing at Grattan..

Gingerman most people don't like.. I personally like it.. but it's a totally flat track and not too much straights - it has 2 short chutes where you can pick up a little speed..

As far as track days Sportbike Track Time reigns supreme in Michigan.. they had exclusive rights to Grattan last year and I assume the same this year.. They also do Gingerman..

If you go outside the state there are track day organizations like NESBA but Sportbike Track Time goes North to South and coast to coast as well..

A good track day to get your feet wet is the $100 track day at Gingerman called Ducati Days - don't let the Ducati name fool you it's open to any and all.. should be in August.. it's a great time.. like $5 to camp and they have entertainment like a band and movies on a "ride in" screen, etc. Plus the Ducati girls..

Stay posted on here I will post any track days we are going to attend.. It's always good to attend a track day with a group.. a little pooling of resources always helps.. like tools, parts, advice, etc.

There is, of course, racing as well.. But to race you need to go to a school, like Team Chicago or they offer other courses.. if you pass the school you get your Amateur License and then you can race WERA, Armco or Fast Traxx.. But I would recommend doing at least 10 track days before even considering racing.. start slow in novice, get all the advice you can and see how it goes.. i honestly thought i was a great rider until i was humbled by the track.. i learned more in 1 day at the track then 20+ years of riding, MSF courses, books, etc. combined.. i am way more comfortable on the bike now whether it is street or track.. i have probably done 20 track days, i lost count.. you really get a feel for what the bike can and can not (can not is a short list) do.. you gain better throttle and brake control.. it is simply amazing..

I could talk about the track all day. If you want more info let me know. Post up here, PM me or email me: mudpuppy@wideopensportbikes.net

Whenever we, Wide Open Sportbikes, go together to the track as a group we post up on our forum as well - you can find it through www.wideopensportbikes.com. I also usually post here and a couple of other forums. Any and all are welcome to join us. Assholes get stuffed in corners.

First two things to remember:

1. There is no trophies for track days - ride within your own comfort zone and level remembering there is always someone faster. Your goal is to bring your bike and yourself back home safe to your family the same way it left just with more knowledge to save yourself the next time you get in a sticky situation on the street.

2. Leave your ego at home. Strongly relates to number 1.

Best track days are during the week when the weekend cowboys aren't there. Less crowded, better instruction, smaller groups, less assholes.

Last year their website was up but they were only doing 1 track day because of the STT exclusive deal at Grattan.. I am not sure what their story is.. I really liked their track days too.. It doesn't look like their site has been updated lately: http://www.apex2apex.net/

Thanks.. If I had more I would put them out.. I will have more in the near future as I now have 2 proper cameras to mount to the bike.. Before we were just using camcorders rigged up..

Overkill was one of my favorite bands back in the day.. They kind of disappeared for awhile or at least in my mind they did and then they came out with this magical masterpiece from the underground and below.. great stuff.. they were back and better than ever..

Yeah, that was shady of Grattan to do that. I liked A2A better than STT.

I just saw Overkill for the 1st time at Blondie's in Detroit on April 8th. Actually plannin to see them again in Nov. in Ohio.. Killfest part 2 (new supporting lineup. Killbox 13 and The Years of Decay are 2 of my Favorites. The new Ironbound is very good.......

The wife and I with Bobby "Blitz". (Lead singer) I was pretty stoked to meet the band as you can tell by my dazed look. Got to meet everyone but D.D. Verni (bass)

Gasman....thanks for the compliment. What a way to make me feel welcome here.
< just a dig back at ya>
I was pretty nervous to meet "Blitz". Been listening to Overkill for 20+ years and finally getting to see them in concert let alone meeting the band after was something special.. ( I looked special !! LOL) << the wife's words

Ninjagirl... no clue on either. Had security, gated and lighted parking so that was a plus.

Way different Blondies - different location.. I used to go to the original Blondie's as well - it was a riot.. I am sure we were there at some point at the same time - I used to live in that joint.. That, paycheks, falcon club, lili's 21, among many others..

Years of Decay is legendary for sure.. I just really liked From the Underground and Below.. I didn't expect much but I popped $16 for the CD and was quite pleasantly surprised..

Chris - I would hope his wife is better looking than him.. And I would hope you realize you just meat gazed, i.e. judged a dude's looks.. if you are going to any bath houses or slobbering on any sweaty sausage we don't need to hear about it (front handed bitch slap)..
