Usually the first Saturday in April this low cost event gives anyone interested in trying out a track day on a road course a chance to check it out. They have groups ranging from expert (racer) to recreational (gear & track prep not required - people in this group range from Harleys to Goldwings to people just cruising the track). No info is posted yet as of the official date but should be up soon. Their website is: http://www.teamchicago.tv/home.htm

If anyone needs any info or has any questions let me know.

Motherfuckers... If I wasn't working that weekend... I'd be game if for nothing else than pit bitch. But I'm working and so it is a shame.

Sounds like fun, you say no track gear? I have never done a track day and know my FZ is NOT a track bike but, would love to give it a go.

Group 5 you don't need leathers, etc. You still need a helmet, gloves, coat, pants, etc. - like what you would wear on the street.. Group 5 runs parade laps but you still get the feel of the track and how a normal track day works PLUS bonus you get instruction from highly qualified people like former and current AMA racers.. Well worth the $25 to come out regardless of the class you are running.. and if you are on the fence and want to run say novice - group 3 and wear the gear and need help prepping the bike to run the higher class just let me know.. I can give you tips on best way to prep the bike, etc. Otherwise Group 5 no bike prep needed and just normal street gear.. I wouldn't recommend showing up in motorcycle sandals, wife beater and shorts with a half shell..

oh and last year they started doing a ride the track during lunch for anyone and everyone during normal STT track days at Grattan.. it's $5 to be a spectator (get in the gate) then you can watch the different groups, talk to people, get a feel for how a track day runs and at lunch ride the track for free (at slower pace of course) and see how it is to get on the track...

as far as the FZR - one of my good friends does track days all the time on a 2004 FZR.. and loves it.. any sportbike type bike is ok to do track days - just some are better than others..

its worth the drive even to come and check it out or another track day - cost you $5 to get in if you are just watching.. its between Lansing and Grand Rapids so about a 2 hour drive from Ann Arbor area..

That's why I sold my track bike. LOL It got to be too expensive and I hated chancing the weather. But I miss it some times.

yep i remember those days quite well.. some of my bolts are still rusted from that shit... i just changed my fairing bolts out..

i don't mind chancing the weather.. cuz when its good it outstanding and most of the time it is good.. the trick is always do 2 track days because chances are one is better than the other.. and if they are both good you can lay back the first day work on some lines.. practice tricky corners.. and then go balls out second day.. my fastest lap times have always come on the second day..
